Yep, surprise....surprise I strayed from tokens, medals....etc.... and bought a 1936 Cleveland Commem. half dollar.
Old Green PCI non the less. Give me your thoughts and grade guesses please.

Well, today is a new day and better day for taking pictures of coins. Below is a very accurate image.....well as best as I can do.
It is more purplish as one member here said. I added a little more light to brighten the coin but it took away some of its luster

..............and the grade is MS63. I think I will leave it in its current tomb for a weeee bit longer.

Some may not be fond of the toning, but I kind of like it.

I'm guessing it's more attractive in-person than in the photos. Especially if it is more of a red or purple than just brown.

As for grade, I will say MS-65 on the holder.

pictures aren't really good enough to judge the surface condition, but I'll say PCGS MS64+ and PCI MS66. overall, it has a pleasant appearance.

Yes the old PCI coins were graded very conservatively. If you remember Insider2 he was one of the graders back in the mid 90's.

That's a nice looking Cleveland Stephanie! I like the rim color and suspect it may have deepened since it was graded.

I'll say PCI called it a 64, and I think it can cross in to a 64, 64+ or maybe a 65 holder ... if you decide to go that way.

MS65, I do not think it has a poor strike. In fact I think it as good as the 3 CoinFacts that are 68, 67+ and 68. Cleveland never had major hair lines and the print strike may be a little subdued by the toning. Nice pickup, welcome to the semi real coin world, Steph.

Old PCI was stingy with the gem grades, so I will say 64. I would also bet that coin was white or nearly so when they holdered it, the rust / purple toning on the reverse is a very typical pattern on silver coins in those slabs.

that's a really vibrant Cleveland and a market bargain with that look. I've seen grungy 67's with underlying lustre I've liked less. Even though ICGFP* I'm calling it conservative real world 64++

There are members betting the opposite, and one of them is a formerly very dear friend. This quite-extended last hiatus came subsequent to my unannounced return from my earlier announced hiatus followed by another suspension (they didn't tell why, I didn't ask) banning followed by at least 50 weeks of compounded self-righteous indignation and loathsome self-pity. I was consoled by Andy's Cabernet and NJ's legalization of tomorrow's holiday treat.

And I'm glad to be here. Let's see if the mods think that in a week or two

having been in the holder for 20+ years it has probably stopped toning and is now stable. also, I don't think those holders toned the coins, though I'm not certain on that last point.

I cannot attest to this one as I did not buy it before or earlier on but, I will say that the toning color and pattern is typical of green label pci toning. It may not have been white because they used to say 100% white on the slab.

I always liked old PCI holders with the mintage on them. I even talked to PCGS and NGC about this.
I'll go 64 due to the old PCI holder. I've had many up grades come out of those.

so I went and looked at some archived threads and I believe that these holders did in fact lend to the toning process. I had thought it was the next incarnation, but from the pictures in those threads it's both types.

vintage PCI holder and based solely on the font, I suspect it was grade 22-25 years ago. I suspect PCI graded the coin 63 then. I like the coin as a 65 and it has the look- congrats.

I think I would leave this as is... in the PCI holder unless the grade is 62 or lower.

Congrats... wonderful addition and your post speaks volumes about looking at the coin.
