3 Newps...........

And another one to show so that every mint is represented.
I was fortunate to pick up 3 new barber quarters for my 2 registry sets. I will be adding them soon. 2 were upgrades of unbeaned coins (25 for the 07-O and 50 for the 16-D). Here are my images below and some commentary. This has been a great series to collect in <MS grades. Miss Barber Liberty wears well so that even VF's are great coins.

All late dates, first up is a 1907-O, upgrading a VF 25 that did not bean. I would ultimately like to have a full set of 58's for the O mint only, all beaned. This is my 4th, so many more to find. Lawrence notes that this is the poorest struck coin of the whole Barber quarter series - depressions in cheeks and 'others are simply distorted'. This one has some razor thin scratches, but overall this example does not look poorly struck. Hard for me to find in graded AU without obvious major issues like cleaned. This is example is nice, icy surfaces with little toning, but some dirt/gunk distributed in various areas. CAC likes dirt............
Next up is a 1913 in P53 in an old green holder. This is more of a better date than the 07-O and again hard to find in nice AU. This one is just booming with luster, total flash. Lawrence notes that these come with great luster, but 'softly struck on the claw'. Yup, this example exhibits these characteristics. Just a hint of copper toning on the edges near the rims, close to blast white. I think if I cracked it (I'd never do that to an OGH with a bean), it could come back 55, what held it back in the OGH days are a few hits and chatter on the obverse, especially on the cheek. Die crack through D in United noted by Lawrence and exhibited here.
Last is my new 16-D. You can be picky on these, they are as common as mud and indeed Lawrence notes that they are #1 in number of certified. This is a great coin and my images don't do it justice. Not as flashy as the '13 above but strong luster under the dollops of copper/orange toning. Some crud attached to a few letters giving one confidence in the minimum of cleaning in the past, and hence liked by CAC.
Finally, not a newp but representation of the S-mint for the series. Just a great look for an XF coin. Better date as most S-mints are in the series, Lawrence notes softly struck in the claws, sometimes for the mm, although this one has a strongly struck mm.

I like them all. You have a great eye.
Well done👌
Love the patina on the '12-S

Very nice. All of them!
I like all of them, but unless I'm missing something in the photo, that 1913 is one heck of an example for a 53.
@spacehayduke .... Wow... Some very nice coins there.... Great additions to your sets. Cheers, RickO
I remember seeing that 16-D, but forgot where. Anyway, as you might imagine, that's my favorite giving the toning. Always top choice selections from the SH Duke!

FYI - populations for the 4 above in CAC:
1907-O - 51 in CAC, 9 in 58, 37 in MS -> none in XF - 13 in AU, 14 in VF to AU
1912-S - 62 in CAC, 2 in 45, 7 in AU, 15 in MS -> 9 coins in XF45 to AU, 12 in VF to AU
1913 - 39 in CAC, 1 in 53, 9 in 55/58, 21 in MS -> 12 coins in XF45 to AU, 17 in VF to AU
1916-D - 291 in CAC, 20 in 58, 264 in MS -> 26 in XF45 to AU, none lower than 45
With the exception of the 16-D, the other three are darn hard to find in XF to AU CACed. That is likely not going to change too much over the next decade even though there may be quite a few worthy - lower value coins don't go to CAC as much, typically more in MS grades for BQ's bc of value. This is why a barber quarter set in circulated grades is very hard in CAC. For the first 3 for example, I now have 1 in 13, 1 in 9, 1 in 12, respectively for the complete XF to AU CAC inventory. This will take some time to build up for sure.

Solid looking coins all around.
Great coins, and I also enjoyed the commentary.
Dude, all are just great. Love the 12-s the best. I have a thing for that date/mm.

You can find most Barber Dimes and Quarters in almost all grades that are attractive coins. The Halves are a different story.

"Sou Mangueira......."
I don't know about the dimes, I have not found one yet I liked in worn grades that meet CAC standards as well. Quarters, it will take at least a decade I think to get a complete set of attractive coins in XF to AU (minus the 3 keys) in CAC, I am 60% there after 4 years but getting harder with what remains - for example, in the O mints, I have not found a 1900-O or a 1906-O after non stop looking over these 4 years that meet my and CAC's standards, the 07-O above was the first 07 in these 4 years in XF-AU that was a looker and thus I did not hesitate to pay up (and use my last ebay bucks). Many of the other O-mints I only have in VF bc the XF-/AUs/CAC are not out there to buy. Halves, CAC numbers are about like the quarters, easier to obtain in 45 than in the 50's, I suspect there are more half collectors tho' and that is a factor in finding them available. All hard series to get attractive in CAC as well.

Glad to see you are still making progress on this set, and your latest additions are excellent. I too agree that the 13P looks under graded, but more importantly is that you have one. I had a dickens of a time even finding a VF, and was never able to upgrade it. Another sleeper coin in a series filled with tough coins!
Your AU 53 looks like a 58 to me. Nice coin.
The 1913 looks better than a 53. All of the others seem to be right on the money. A very nice group of Barber Quarters!
Like them all, but I love the 1913!

i like that 1913. its got appeal that i like, fwiw
Very nice looking group! The 13 always seemed to is a tough one to find nice, and I certainly like it the best of the NEWP's

Nice! The 53 looks really good!
Thanks for the kind words folks.

Fantastic examples! I'd like to know what you think about the 13 and why it's only a 53. Seems like I'm not the only one that thinks that one's a bit undergraded.
Congrats!!! Super group

Fellas, leave the tight pants to the ladies. If I can count the coins in your pockets you better use them to call a tailor. Stay thirsty my friends......
I don't collect Barbers but those are really nice coins.

I think the standards were higher overall in the OGH days. The reverse looks 58, the obverse has some surface chatter which is why I think in the past it was a 53. I think it could go 55 today but CAC did not give it a gold bean so they don't think it is super strong 55, so I think that goes back to the chatter on the obverse keeping it down.
