Post some specimens minted on the old #1 Carson City press.

As a collector of over 5 decades Carson City coins have always been a favorite of collectors.
If you are not aware of its history ,and the CC mint I've posted a link above to get you some background on the mint ,and its operation.
I've never have had the pleasure to visit the museum, or see the press, as a YN , or as an old one .... I still find the stories of this operation as a huge part of this country history of coin mintage.
Please if you have had the opportunityto visit, and pictures as well coins, and medals that have been coined on #1 , post them here.... I have one I need to retrieve from the vault to image ,and post in a little while....

I have to get into my safes to grab a item that I purchased about 10 years ago... unfortunately im post op with my nurse aka the wife who has limited my actions durring my recovery.
But i am excited to see the images I do believe will rock this thread.

I love the fact that the press is still banging out medals and tokens to support events and special occasions. One may not be able to afford a nice MS cc Dollar but just having a medal or token made on this press seems to connect a collector to the press historic operations.

Here are a few pictures from my past visits - it's an annual pilgrimage for me. The replica silver mine in the lower level alone is worth the price of admission. Be sure to trek up the Virginia City to see the Silver Queen and walk the old boardwalks if you come out for a visit:

Such a pleasure I have found here the last few days posting! Yeah there's always a fly in the ointment....but I have enjoyed the mature, educated members here who have made hours of boredom bearable to a type A never stop personality .
Again Tim you're truly an asset to this community, and made me smile....the best medicine.

Should you find yourself travelling to the east coast in or near the golden triangle...please let me know... I be happy to be a tour guide to the never ending things to do and see here.... buy ya a beer and lunch to boot.

CC coins I can spot a mile away...they circam very well and the colors of their medal is so distinctive....I call battleship grey/green well to these old eyes.
I really love their tone and that flat wear that like the walls in some old motel ,as to the stories they could tell. Thanks for your support and post.

Ones that own that I can verify were struck by Coin Press #1. (The mint added additional presses starting in 1875, so no telling for sure from then on, AFAIK) And, since reuniting with the old mint building, the press produces medallions as part of the Nevada State museum.
I've been to the old CC mint at the Nevada State Museum several times. And as I type this, I can look out my window towards Mt Davidson, with Virginia City and the old Comstock Lode just on the other side.
1) 1870 CC Seated Liberty Dollar - first year of production at the mint. 2) 1870-2020 Sesquicentennial medallion - struck on coin press #1 (.999 Nevada silver planchet). 3) Replica of 1870 Seated Liberty Half Dollar (2020 sesquicentennial celebration) - struck on coin press #1 (.999 Nevada silver planchet). 4) Virginia and Truckee Railroad medallion (first passenger service between Carson City and Virginia City in 1870) - struck on coin press #1

Here is an added link to a thread I had originated featuring the specimen Carson City Double Eagle on display at the museum in the former Carson City Mint building. As pictured, it is an 1875 Double Eagle so most likely was minted by Coin Press #1 which was the only coin press in use within the mint up until 1875.

Carson City coins... especially the Morgans... have intrigued me for a long time. Actually the first and only series I have done by mint. Completed in the late '90's.. maybe 2000... I even added a fake CC just to further the 'completeness' of the series. I have not been to the CC mint, but it is on a bucket list. Cheers, RickO

Most here have heard the story of my "presentation" CC of 1870. One of the first three minted or so it was reported as such.
The first coin off the press on Feb 4, 1870 went to Governor Blasdel, the 2nd to my greant grandfather Matt Rinckel (Abe and Matt were business partners and best friends) and the 3rd was sent back east to President Grant. If anyone here wants a brochure with pics send me a PM and I'll send it to you.

The top case is the item I was waiting to retrive from my vault
These were struck in 2010 on the #1 press ,sold as a fund raiser
I had purchased 2 as they are numbered ,and were paid in advance
And only struck once a month to fill paid orders.
The limit of only 2010 units ,I am unaware of their total mintage ,
As I never saw the finial amount struck.
Notice this is # 547 / 2010.

This other wasn't struck on the press but by heraldic art medal 1960 ,.925 for the centennial of the pony express....Ive posted it as it was purchased by myself in 1960 at a of all places a department store mens shop.
As a 6 Y/o being fitted for a new suit for of course Easter.....seemed like a good trade off an hour of buying a suit for a new coin. yeah that worked.....the suit went to church...the coin stayed home.....I guess mom either had a vision of it going in the collection basket.....or rolling down the isle.......moms are like that ....they see the future! Never let you forget the passed too!

Now google being my friend....I discovered this tid bit....ken Hopple who was the director and ran the old #1 press at the Nevada state museun . He struck 90 pcs in brass "see image" which 20 were sold to tourist at the site, the other 70 were given to Y/N's at an ana seminar.
So there is some 90 medal from the same dies still out there....struck in brass housed as pictured.

I love to walk a show and find one of the brass medals to add to the set.

The 1884CC Eagle from the Battle Born collection shown above is fantastic. Here is a Carson City Double Eagle from the same year. I visited the CC mint about fifteen years ago. Now that we are retired my wife and I plan to travel to Lake Tahoe and spend at least a day in Carson City. The mint is tops on the agenda.

I had filled up all of my science requirements in College in Geology and Chemistry so on my first and several subsequent trips to Virginia City, I wanted to see a piece of the "Blue" rock that had caused so much trouble and later turned out to be high grade Silver Ore. I have asked all up and down the strip for about 25 years for someone to show me a piece of this rock and in about 8 trips to Virginia City, I have yet to see a piece of this ore. I would have thought that somewhere there would be a display showing what caused such a ruckus back then, but no luck! In the Mine tour, even the ore vein is faked!...Sigh
