I’m sorry to hear of those of you that have to drive a full day or are told over and over again that you have been postponed on your vaccination. It is enough of a struggle to worry about Covid and then worry about whether or not you’re getting inoculated. I do appreciate the input from medical professionals!
I am fortunate as I live in an area that has a good supply and a good network of providers.

And after all this, for those that still want to go on a cruise, you will be required to get three shots and a booster!

We are inviting these and other problems in through our southern border as we speak for no other reason than to solidify votes. Had your TB booster lately ?

coins shows asking for cards won't work.

with the cards being posted on social media, they will be easy to fake.

I would like to know how long the “vaccine” is effective? Don’t bother answering because no one really knows nor does anyone know long term effects. I’m just happy that Pfizer is going to have a record breaking year of profits of 65 billion dollars!

I’m neither a pro nor anti vaxer. I’m in my late 40s, relatively healthy and have been working through this whole pandemic out in public. Going in and out of peoples cars. Dealing with people face to face, mostly masked.
I’m not in any rush to get vaccinated. Probably will be a while before I qualify anyway. I’ll probably get it when the time comes but who knows. I’ve only gotten a flu shot twice in my life.
For those of you who plan to or have gotten the vaccine I ask this. Do you get the flu shot every year? Some may say yes, other no. But for those that don’t and now choose to look down on the healthy young people who do not see a need. And blame them for all the spread and chance for people to die. Look in the mirror and wonder how many vulnerable people you have put at risk for years because you chose to not get your flu vaccine. Or went to work with a runny nose and sore throat because it was just a cold. Or smoke cigarettes and expose those around you to secondhand smoke. Or sped in your car and put other people at risk.
People die from those things too every year.
Sure this is new and maybe more deadly, but get off your high horses.
    Flame on.

When did the PCGS coin forum become a COVID-19 vaccination commentary? 🤔

I do not know but I get sucked in every time. :D

As a physician who has lived in a world where I have seen countless people die or become permanently affected by COVID and handfuls of colleagues get sick from treating others and have slow recoveries, I have little tolerance for those who do not take it seriously, who question the science, who care little for other people's health and well-being, etc.

I understand and I tried to ignore it but so many members are commenting who know this is a clear violation of our host's forum rules.

This thread keeps getting bumped to the top so it's in everyone's face at a time and place where many of us who are tired of COVID-19 are trying to find ways to distract themselves from the cruel reality of COVID-19.

    This needs to end please!🤐

About a year ago now. ;)

Since coin shows are a major part of the hobby, it seems relevant to me. I understand that many people (including the mods) have a differing opinion. I've learned a fair amount about Covid here on the forum, for which I'm thankful. I've also reconfirmed that Luddites are well-represented in the coin hobby/business.

  • MsMorrisineMsMorrisine Posts: 35,931 ✭✭✭✭✭

don't listen to the government on vaccinations to restore coin shows and more, listen to the doctors, emts, and other front line workers on here.

keep it up and next year there will still be just the plastic trees making in person auction bids.

I agree that, if they can, people who want to avoid the shot will create fake cards saying they've received theirs. You'll never completely avoid that.

So that said, while the altruistic purpose of wearing masks, getting shots, etc is to both prevent oneself from getting Covid & prevent spreading it to loved ones & others, it's also the best chance we have in this interconnected world to prevent things from getting worse & instead hopefully bring closer the day we can all get back to some semblance of "normal". I want to see & visit & hug my boys and my Mom again!

Profits aside, I have to hope that the government and drug companies are doing their best to actually help solve the problem. As with any vaccine, some may get side effects or they might not be 100% effective in all cases. And we may find that boosters are needed at some point, especially to help against mutations. It's still a learning process, and all this is being done under the gun of the pandemic. Criticize or commend the effort, progress, & trajectory of the process (there are valid arguments for both sides), but the speed at which teams came together to fight this has been nothing short of amazing.

It's been a hell of a year, and I'd like to hope that people would do the best for society as a whole and themselves personally to avoid it continuing any longer than necessary. But there will always be those who won't, and we'll have to live with that fact & adjust to it.

The idea of a card to travel, attend sporting events, enroll in on-site schooling, etc is both attractive to me as a potential accelerant to everyone's participating in the cause, as well as a bit concerning for anyone who knows history & various countries' abuse of "papers". A healthy balance must be achieved. But vaccinations are a requirement today for mumps, etc in school, so I don't see why the vaccine for this can't also be one. There are things in life that are privileges vs a right, such as vacationing, attending concerts & sporting events, etc, and promoters of such events have the absolute right to require those attending to show proof of having been vaccinated. Just like passing thru a metal detector at football games, it's the price of living in a society. Nobody's forcing you to go if you don't want to follow those guidelines.

That said, the major roadblock to this all is availability of the shots and the speed at which everyone can get them. Obviously, ramping-up to roll 2 shots apiece to every world citizen is a HUGE undertaking, which has more than its fair share of mistakes. It's hard to require proof of vaccination to attend various events or go to school when the U.S. is hovering at maybe something like 10% full-vaccination? And places such as PA have such a messed-up system of priority classifications, multiple sign-up websites vs 1 standardized list, etc that people are engaged in a "Hunger Games"-type search for ANYONE who can get them their necessary shots. It's obviously hard to achieve appropriate distribution when the supply is so far behind demand (which hopefully won't be an issue by the time we get to needing just boosters, etc in the future), but we need a massive, coordinated FEMA-type program to get the shots to everyone ASAP if things ae to change for the better anytime soon.

In the meantime, while there's really no better option, people and businesses & the economy are suffering physically, mentally, and economically, and the country is being pulled apart at the seams by arguing factions. Something needs to be done to get us past this & back to "normal".

By the way....... COINS!! (to make this a legitimate post.......)

one must ask how would the healthcare privacy laws affect the requirement for the presentation of a vaccination card to participate in a coin show or top 100 coins auction?

Last week. Apparently it takes 10 months for everyone to forget the Covid 19 thread last March that got some long-time members booted.

This will inevitably devolve into politics - sort of already has - and then PCGS will shut it down.

Them that makes the rules can change the rules.

FWIW we've already been dealing with this on campus. Students, faculty, and staff have to answer a health question before they can go on campus. Students who may have been exposed are quarantined which results in notification going to faculty which essentially is giving me medical information about the students.

It was required to get a flu shot to go on campus in the Spring Semester.

It was required to get a Covid test to go on campus in Spring Semester.

    Students are being tested weekly.

I got vaccinated and I own guns. What does one have to do with the other? Also, those who don't get the vaccination are concerned with potential side effects. For you to assume they want to kill their neighbors and fellow citizens is just plain ridiculous.

The dude talked about shooting people who might try to give him a vaccine. I didn’t bring up guns.

You can still be infected with the virus after vaccination and expose others. The vaccine will help protect you from severe illness or death. Masks are still necessary to protect others from you.

I would think the lungs would be an aerosol pump at a coin show. sure you may be vaccinated but one could still inhale it from one source and exhale it to a new person, no? Isn't that a reason to wear a mask to an event once vaccinated?
