I was kidding.
Since more than half the comments don't even mention coins, I'll rest my case. It's about vaccination. You can deny it all you want, but the evidence is on my side.
Could have been vaccinated several weeks ago didn't bother signing up ! Maybe I will get it next fall maybe not! Wife and I got the virus from kids wasn't big deal for us! Going to Las Vegas show on the 5th of this month! Love coin shows!
I will feel safe to go out again to shows once both shots "kick in." I am in a high risk situation so I have stayed in for the past year. I will still wear a mask but I will once again feel I can do so with relative impunity with the exception of avoiding dealers who don't like cherrypickers.
I'm a front line EMS worker, although I'm currently off due to rotator cuff surgery. Due to high exposure risk I received my 1st dose on Dec. 30th, 2nd on Jan. 28th. Personal choice as we were not mandated. I've seen what Covid can do, so a no brainer decision for me.
Although I've made quite a few on-line purchases in the last year, I'm hoping shows start back soon. Nothing like holding a prospective purchase in hand. I'll still wear a mask, social distance and have my own hand sanitizer in my pocket. STAY SAFE my collecting friends.
I am tested weekly and I can tell you it is a relief each week when I see the results. I know six who got the covid and one death so I'm all for the shots. I would enjoy going to a coin show and will when the next one rolls through town and I'm vaccinated. Maybe by the end of summer things will be looking up! In my state the governor mandated mask wearing in all businesses and public places and that has stopped all the nonsense with about 99% compliance. It is a pain but it has gotten the foolish teenagers and curmudgeons to mask up. At least there is a light we can see at the end of the tunnel and it is shining on the next coin show!

Nothing I've said derails this thread at all. I suggested that IMHO this thread was not about coins but about vaccinations. That would be a comment that is DIRECTLY related to the topic of the thread. You don't have to agree - and didn't - but don't pretend there was anything spurious about the comment.
If you don't want opinions, don't post on public forums. And if you don't want me to defend either my opinion or my character, then don't respond and don't make accusations.
The flu season has been mild so far this year with fewer upper respiratory infections. Masks and social distancing works. Just because people got the vaccine doesn’t mean that we should go back to how things were before. I’ve become accustomed to wearing mine and really don’t notice it anymore. That may not be the most popular opinion here but I do believe it’s true.
I appreciate the personal comments and the personal experiences. It’s good to hear that so many are invested in protecting themselves and others! Under those conditions, I like being here even more. Safe. Distanced.
I’m pretty excited for what rapid vaccine deployment will mean for flu and other viruses. They seem like no big deal because we’ve always had them, just like fleas and rotten teeth seemed like no big deal in the Middle Ages. Future people will likely be appalled by our nanchalance.
My two sisters are front line, so they both had it. My father in law is 70+ so he was able to get it, most of my customers over 70 have had at least 1, some both. Everyone else, no. in fact , they are still doing only 65 and older currently unless special case in my area/ And the wait times are approcahing 6 hours in some cases.
I for one, am kicking as1 on ebay with limited shows, so I could care less, however I do like going to look around. Also a few dealer freinds of mine who dont do ebay are anxiously awaiting the show circuit return. I just hope that all the new customer I have gained over the past year, continue to buy from me on line even if they return to doing shows.
So, the question as to whether we might be able to attend coin shows again in the near future was presented.
There is widespread concern, as a matter of public health policy, regarding large gatherings of people in one space. It is a matter of public health and safety.
Though some are in denial of it, we are in the midst of a pandemic whereby the pathogen is spread to a great extent through airborne/droplet transmission.
Coin shows- being held indoors, are by their very nature- gatherings of large numbers of people under one roof, and sharing the same airspace.
It was not healthy, on several levels to have morphed a matter of a public health crisis with political policy and motives. Had that never happened, we wouldn’t be having this discussion.
I can’t speak for them but I might assume many coin dealers would not be comfortable interacting face to face, up close and personal with a significant number of potential customers over the course of a few days.
I worked in health care with this virus, up close and personal.
I can assure those of you that may doubt it’s authenticity and severity, that this virus is not something to be messed with.
I might also add, that even though I worked with dozens of very sick COVID patents from the earliest days, I successfully avoided contracting it. And I did so through diligently utilizing the tools available- including high quality masks. I have no doubt that if used correctly- they work!
I also have no doubt that coin shows could be held again- safely, before herd immunity is achieved, if precautions similar to those we took in the health care setting- were widely utilized!
But, that would entail significant attention to air exchanges, filtration, widely available high quality masks and education on their proper fit and use. Hand hygiene, and more.
Are we ready for that?
Poof me if you want!
I came back to my coin hobby, and this forum to try and escape the darkness or these past several months. For the most part I’ve been able to.
I’d really love to hit some shows again!

Many of the people attending shows will be in their sixties and seventies or beyond (like me) and are at higher risk just due to their age and other factors, such as diabetes (like me.) So, the more precautions the better. It's common sense-the more who are inoculated, the better. No politics involved at all. Just common sense.
I am certainly qualified to get the vaccine.... and would. However, I am on three lists and no calls yet. Vaccine is scarce in this area ...and the state it seems.... That being said, I work and deal with the public. I have been to several gun shows with large groups (hundreds, even thousands) of people. I do wear a mask, even though cloth masks are virtually worthless against a virus. I sure do not want to get this virus (lost two friends already), so will continue with common sense precautions and hope for a call to get the vaccine. No reason coin shows cannot go on... gun shows have the same large crowds and lots of older people. Cheers, RickO
I got a phone call ( several actually ) that my middle son is deploying through the state by a Federal request to the east coast. He arrived last night and is currently undergoing additional training. He will be administering vaccine inoculations in a very large venue. He, like myself is employed as fire/ems. If I wasn't currently off work for an injury, I would be with him. Prayers appreciated for his safe return.

It's not just the age of the attendees, it's the venues that contribute to the risk. I have been to shows in church halls and VFW basements where I would swear the same air has been circulating for generations.
I don't attend many shows in person, but the next safe opportunity I get I am definitely going to take.

What about those that already have natural immunity after contracting Covid? Perhaps a different way to identify them..

This is all too new for anyone to know what things will look like in one, two or five years from now. There is little science and tons of fear and opinion at this point.

Not a problem. When my wife and I got the first shot, the local Hospital gave us each a personalized vaccination card. When we get our second shot next week and get the cards punched again, I'm going to stick the card in my wallet. That way, I can just show the card, if required, at any coin show or other venue I attend.
I have several friends that have had either the Pfizer or Moderna shots. A common theme amongst them is that the first shot caused them pain and soreness at the shot site. The second shot had mild to not so mild effects to include fever, body aches, diarrhea, basically miserable flue like symptoms. Shot two sounds like it can be very uncomfortable. I have passed up a few opportunities to get the shots. For one, with a 99.997% survival rate I don't think I need it. For two, I have have already contracted and beat the COVID so I will trust my natural antibodies over the vaccine. I guess I was very lucky I wasn't one of the 0.003% Someone else that wants the vaccine can have my doses.
With all the controversy, politics, mandates, fear pushing, suspect stats and false information that has been rampant during the last 12 months I am skeptical of both sides of the argument. I have plenty to say about this and I have opinions like everyone else here. Being this is not the place for such a debate I just deleted a couple paragraphs of text. I look forward to when things to get back to "normal". I do not agree with those that talk about a "new normal". Maybe one of these years I'll be able to attend a coin show...
I got my 2nd Pfizer shot about 3-4 weeks ago. The 2nd put me down for a day. The shots also were very hard on my staff that had prior infections to include a guy who had only been out of the hospital about 10days after flirting with a vent when I sent him for his shot he had missed while being out sick. He had a multi day fever from his first shot.
What about those that already have natural immunity after contracting Covid? Perhaps a different way to identify them..
Immunity ? Nope. Best friends wife tested positive with symptoms in November. Came down sick late last week. Dr. appt. Tuesday. Tested, positive results back Wednesday. She doesn't know as she was admitted Tuesday evening and is currently on a ventilator. Unsure if it is the same or different strain.

I received my second Moderna last month. No side effects from the first shot, mild side effects from the second.
