AuldFartte returns.

Hello, my friends. I apparently haven't been here since around November 2008 or so. Well, I'm back. I haven't done much collecting in several years. Picked up a couple of British Victorians for my Type Set, but have been only recently getting back into active collecting, and have concentrated on Liteside, specifically US Large Cents. So much has happened since I was last here, but I don't think the admins would appreciate me taking up a bunch of space with my past 12-year life story. So, how are my old friends? I'd love to hear from you, either on this thread or (I assume we can still do this) DM me. And I'd love to make friends with those of you who don't remember me! Happy collecting!

Okay, boston. I'll elaborate. A bit. I lost interest in coins in 2008 when I had my thirteenth midlife crisis, so to speak, and bought a Harley. I spent every spare moment I had riding for the next three years or so. Then I developed balance issues, and, following doctor's orders, sold the bike. I got into photography for quite a while. In 2014 I lost my wife of nearly 42 years and went waaaaay down the proverbial rabbit hole of depression. Not fun. It took a long time to become somewhat human again. In July of this year, I bought a house in WA and my daughter moved in to, as she put it, "care for me as and if I need it as I age." So there's that. I am having loads of fun (note: sarcasm) trying to get used to the lack of sunny days, cloudy all the time, and the humidity combined with the cold is making my old joints ache like crazy. Ah, the joys of aging! That should do it for the short version.

I know the problem of aging quite well, especially those aching joints!
Blast from the past! You should pardon the expression.

I joined the year you were bowing out, so I don't recall your posts. Welcome back, look forward to your posts and learning about your large cents.
Don't remember you specifically, but definitely the name. Welcome back and so sorry for your loss. I wish you a wonderful Christmas and a great New Year.

Since this is supposed to be coin related, I'll post my latest. Well, the reverse anyway. The obverse is so bloody corroded that you can't make out anything. It's graded PCGS Genuine - Environmental Damage, G Detail AMERICA
It's a 1793 Chain LC. I had the opportunity to buy a beautiful solid VF-30 from my local dealer in Albuquerque several years ago for $5600 (his price) but since I bought so much from him, he probably would have let me have it for $5100. I didn't have the money. As I've always wanted a Chain LC, I got this one a few weeks ago:
Edit to add: Nice die break, too!

Welcome! @AuldFartte. Love the handle.
Welcome back! I'm sure you've been gone longer than I've been here so I don't remember you but I also like your creative handle. I like large cents and Barber quarters by the way. Nice looking chain reverse!
I remember you, and welcome back! I believe that every Large Cent collector dreams of owning a Chain Cent one day. Congrats!
I remember you. Welcome back.
Sorry to hear of your wife's passing. Glad you are back to being you.
Many thanks to all of you for welcoming me back. I usually really enjoyed this place, and am looking forward to hanging around, learning, sharing, etc.

Welcome Back. Life can be sad. We walk away from what we love. I enjoy this place too. I don't get suspended for my sarcasm here, unlike that other message board at NGC. I only left because for some reason this forum was not loading on my android tablet. Looks like they fixed it.
Neat Chain cent. Lots of detail (reverse) on that one. I can see why you like it. Is the obverse really that bad?

A number of years ago I made the the mistake of joining the message board across the street. When introducing myself I got very rude treatment. I quickly ran back here. I haven't visited ATS for many years and don't intend on ever going back.
Welcome back!
