It’s been a good year for me, coin-wise.
My two favs are probably my Micro S Merc and my toned IHC. The 20c piece might bump the IHC, but I’ll stick with two.
Basically full retail on the Merc. Got the cent for like $40 all in.

It's always fun to take a look back. As usual, I picked up quite a few more coins this year than I actually remembered. Picking the top is reasonably difficult, but I'm quite satisfied that I did better picking great coins than I've done previously. Fourteen slabbed coins came home to live with me this year. I purchased just one that I regret, a bit. It's a decent coin, but not at all that hard to find and I overpaid for it. Thinking about it just now, it needs to go and it needs to go fast. Every time I see it I cringe a bit.

During the year I sold maybe 25 coins. I scrutinized the entire collection carefully back in January, and just finished selling off those that bothered me for whatever reason. Some had real issues and others were really fantastic coins, but weren't the right coins for that particular spot. The pruning left a few holes here and there, but my overall level of satisfaction with those still here has jumped forward significantly. Besides, it's fun to go find better ones to fill the holes.

These three are my favorites for the year. The two Barbers became stalwart pillars in my 20th Century type set and the Gettysburg, well.... that's just a coin you buy when you have the opportunity. I sold one graded higher to make room for it, and this one is clearly the better coin. The luster on all three of these is simply incredibly. Bright and flashy with gorgeous overlying toning. All three look much better in-hand.

It's been a pretty good year coming back to the hobby. New friends and old friendships rekindled, and a deeper appreciation for the hobby overall.

I think these two are probably two of my favorite NEWPs for the year, which have some similar characteristics. If I could find Bust and Seated Halves that looked like these and somewhat reasonable prices, I might just keep buying until the war chest was empty.

The 2 that excited me the most I just stumbled upon.

The first was the 1976 D Quarter.
Every time I look at it I just can't believe it was a circulation find.
I am happy with the grading results too.

The second one is the 1972/72.
I owned the coin once before and had the chance to get it back after about 15 years.
My photos don't show its true beauty.
The photos show more of the orange unc color but it's a deeper cherry red in hand.
I have had many 72/72 over the years and I just really like this one.

One domestic and one from the dark side.......

2020 was a year that offered me opportunities to significantly upgrade my toned box of twenty showcase of modern proofs. I was not necessarily looking to do this, but several coins came to market that I knew were exceptional.

In January I worked out a deal with WingedLiberty to purchase some of his toner Sacagawea proofs that were going to market. This was my favorite of those because of the clean surfaces. Tough to find toners without spotting problems.

In August, once again WingedLiberty was moving some of his Lincoln proofs and this one spoke to me.

And in late October, I checked back with the Owner of this coin to see if he would consider selling it. I asked about it's location on the forum back in March, and U1chicago found the coin on Instagram. We arrived at a price in October and it now resides in my collection. Thanks Mr. Esposito!
