May have sold out... but is the demand really there except for the speculators? Presales on ebay IMO did not show much enthusiasm... but maybe it will catch on fire once sold out and sets reach the customers....

    Mintage Limit: 14,200
    Product Limit: 9,200
    Household Order Limit: 1

    Yes. UK has 5000 sets.

Those are some fairly low mintage commemorative golds and at $10 vs the normal $5 they are also a type coin in a way like the 1984 gold Olympics were. A gold reverse commemorative is also a bit unusual.

You could pretty much ask that about any "hot" mint issue. The frenzy always dies down. But the Mint did keep the mintages low on these. When they go over 50,000 silver or 20,000 gold for a commemorative, you can almost guarantee tepid and waning interest. At 14,200 silver (20,000 RP) and only 5000 gold, they have a shot at holding some premium over bullion.

  • MsMorrisineMsMorrisine Posts: 35,850 ✭✭✭✭✭

if you must have the 2 coin gold.

you can think there will be cancellations and returns.

    or

order from the uk... which has different packaging.
    https://www.royalmint.com/our-coins/events/mayflower/400th-anniversary-of-the-mayflower-voyage-two-coin-gold-proof-set/

their product limit is 500 of the 2 coin gold.

I didn't get any pre-sale buy offer, so I passed. I wonder if they'd have sold out a little quicker without the V75 hangover a lot of mint customers are still nursing.

The silvers are not considered commemoratives in the standard US registry sets because they are medals, but they are interesting designs so I decided, why not.

UK gold sets are still available.

Really shows you the market difference. 4800 US sets - unavailable. 500 UK sets - still available.

The 500 gold in the UK were "awaiting stock" yet, and say 10 day wait to ship more or less.

Yes. I'm a little surprised. The RP medal was the most inexpensive option and only 20,000. Medals generally suck, but it is a fairly historic event with (you'd think) broad interest.

    Re: single silver medal

    1) it's a medal, low collector base for medals
    2) 20,000? are they fooling themselves? Rhetorical. Yes, they are. Mintage Way, Way too high.

I predict if it sells out, it will sell back in with returns and cancellations.

this one is going to be for the hardcore medal collectors.

I think 20,000 is right about the limit on medals.

It's said that since they went live at 8 a.m. They must not have gotten the coins from the US Mint yet.

  • jmlanzafjmlanzaf Posts: 36,554 ✭✭✭✭✭

I wish the UK gold coin set would sell out so I'm not tempted to buy more. LOL

  • jmlanzafjmlanzaf Posts: 36,554 ✭✭✭✭✭

UK silver set also still available. It's too bad that it is so much more expensive than the US version or I would scarf up 100 of them.

That UK gold coin I bought is going from West Point, across the Atlantic to London, back to the US, to the Pacific Northwest, then to California for grading, and back to Washington State. It will probably be circulated by the time I get it.

I'm in NY. We could save a lot of miles if they just let me pick it up at West Point. LOL.

the mint shops at the various locations have to order from the same warehouse we do. I think they even use the same web site.

I actually work at West Point and pass the mint every morning. It's torture! I've inquired several times about getting a tour, but they never open it up for tours. I suspect it's because that's where they hide the hamsters powering the website, and I'd see firsthand who or what is responsible for the constant errors and crashes.

Yes, I noticed that with their earlier offerings. They don't mess around. I wonder if they just refuse to relist cancellations and don't have excess to cover returns. Or maybe they just dump them on a bulk dealer.

Saves our British friends from screwing around every morning. LOL

One thing I noticed that confused me about the mintages... on the Mint page for the Reverse Proof gold, the small table to the right listed mintage as 5,000 with no product limit. However, when you read the description below, it says the mintage is limited to 10,000. So which is it? (I 'think' it is likely 5,000... but who knows??)

The fact that you can still buy the RP silver medal with a 20,000 mintage 3 hours later tells me all I need to know... Pass

I'm a descendant too, so there is some appeal. As an aside, my ancestor's claim to fame from the Mayflower voyage is he's the guy that got blown off the ship in a bad storm and, depending on what version of history you read, either grabbed a rope as he was falling over or got tangled in a topsail rope as he was swept off. Anyway, lucky for him, someone saw him and pulled him back on board. Well, I guess it was lucky for me too...or I wouldn't be here!!! :)

As for the coins, I had a little trouble getting the US Mint site to confirm, but on the third attempt, the order for both the gold and silver 2 coins sets went through.

Got the silver set and the silver RP. I didn't even know I got the silver set till I read my E-mail a little bit ago. Every time I hit the final button it kept sending me back to the payment page. I did that till 9:20 when it went unavailable. So I picked up the silver RP. Really strange. Got the second E-mail for both items so I guess I'm good.
