    Thanks for the news - he will be missed. He was a great host for the show.

    will they try to get a new "host" or end this very popular show
    Maybe they can add an "Alex" picture to the question board before they show the question categories. It would be a nice tribute

    I am a nightly viewer and have been for years. What a shame he's now gone. He seemed like such a nice guy.

    I really adored Alex Trebek, and he has made such an impression on me with Jeopardy, that I answer just about all game shows in the form of a question.

    The answer is 1964. And the question is: What year did Jeopardy first air? The original host was Art Fleming
    but I think we all remember Alex Trebek hosting the most!

    I have always been very fond of the Jeopardy show.

    He was a great host

    He fought his battle the way he lived his life.........With bravery, class and dignity.

    RIP Sir Alex Trebek. :'(

    Wow, I’m so tired of TV lately he’s the only thing I watched. Such class and character; we all could learn more than just trivia from him.
    I got on the message boards for peace and relaxation, I hadn’t heard. RIP Mr. Trebek. You’ll be missed greatly.

    I am not a TV addict... though I have seen the show a couple of times (my wife likes it). He seemed like a real nice person and surely had a lot of fans. Sorry to hear the news, he fought bravely and worked until the end. RickO

    My wife also watches Jeopardy every night. I'm not a big fan of TV game shows but I certainly know who he is and have been following his struggle with cancer.

    Had a chance to meet him in person when he travelled to my community to identify potential participants. While I didn't make the final cut I do recall how cordial he was to all of us and the kind TV persona many above refer to matched my personal experience.

    He will be definitely missed.

    I'm not a big fan of game shows either as nearly all are mundane IMO but Jeopardy is the single one I watch.

    I'm surprised that nobody has mentioned the fact that he was a coin collector. I remember seeing him several decades ago in Stack's in NYC. That's why he sometimes had "Numismatics" as a Jeopardy category. I also remember discussing it with others at the time. And I also remember when Art Fleming was the host.

    I don't know what he collected or if he still was active in recent years.

    Collector and dealer in obsolete currency. Always buying all obsolete bank notes and scrip.

    Alex Trebek suggested two possible successors. Alex Faust, an LA  sports announcer. And Laura Coates, a CNN legal analyst.

    I’m sure the show will continue. I made the jump from Art Fleming to Alex Trebek. But no one can replace Alex Trebek.

    Watched a rerun last night and Alex mentioned that they use to give silver dollars to audience members that answered questions correctly prior to the show going on air.

    When I was a kid, sometime in the mid 90s, my family went to a taping of Jeopardy. During every break, Trebek would answer audience questions about anything. Back then I was sort of into cars and asked him about what he drove. I don't remember the answer, but I do remember how friendly it was.

    I was at the taping when my wife was a contestant on the show in 2016. He did similarly, appearing in between segments and answering questions about anything- politics, baseball, his favorite contestants, and even some first world celebrity problems like how his winery was doing.

    Merv was very loyal to Art Fleming as well as Alex Trebeck. They were loyal to Merv in return. Both great guys.

    I was Merv’s personal CPA and his tax man until he passed away a few years back. Merv was a great guy with many talents.

    I recall his talk show and his name still shows up in the credits in these game shows he created.

    Jack Benny was 80 when he died from cancer, not 39. I just said jack benny is an older comedy person, some of kids now a days never even heard of jack benny. Anyway, RIP Alex Trebek
