Light skinned beauty – CBH; Updated to add the darker skinned counterpart

When I saw this one, I couldn’t get it out of my mind. I didn’t need another 1835, but, so it goes.

After all, I tell myself, it’s not a marriage I have yet, right? Right?!

I think I am starting to better understand some of my friends in this Capped Bust world.

Anyway, I know the seller, so we had a quick back and forth, and this one arrived yesterday. There are a lot of different looks to like, but this look is pretty tough not to love, at least for me.

Your thoughts, critique, guess the grade … all comments appreciated. Have a great start to the weekend!

Very nice, I'd say 53. Most tend to tone dark, maybe these later planchet had different metallic content.

That's very nice! (Borat voice) For some reason, the 1835 is a bit tougher to find nice than the other 1830's dates.

Thanks for all the comments so far.

It's great to be able to share, and I really appreciate the positive feedback (although even if it was negative, I would pay attention).

This one comment, though, made me laugh and smile!

And while @ElmerFusterpuck and the Borat voice did cause a chuckle, maybe not quite as much as @BustDMs swoop to buy all of the EF45 CBH's @PQueue says he doesn't have.

For what it's worth, @TennesseeDave got the grade our host gave this coin ... it's in a 55 holder.

Looking again, my pictures do not fully capture the strength of the luster, especially the reverse shot, and so I completely understand the 50, 53 comments. In hand I think it's a 55, although I could accept if I was looking at it in a 53 holder.

I did receive another coin in the same package, so maybe I should include that here too? She's kind of the darker cousin. If you come back for a second look, let me know what you think of this one too.

Love the 35. I also like this look and her skin is nice. I have her sister, an
1836 O-115 that looks oh so similar. I see that coin in a 55 slab as she currently sits.

I also like the 34. I have seen that mottled/dirty reverse toning and believe it was caused
by the coin sitting for years in maybe a coin cabinet reverse side down. Maybe on an old
piece of felt. I see her as a technical 55 but may go a notch lower if the luster isn't there.

55, just like the '35, IMO.

The obverse is to die for. Those tiny digs above the 8 in the date are mint-made (ejection fingers).

53 on the 34. There's very little wear, but a little lack luster. I used to collect CBH's and love them. I may have to get a nice one or two in the near future.

@7Jaguars Interesting comment. I didn't think of it that way too much, and it certainly didn't occur to me that might be the premise when I hit the LOL on Brian's comment.

But yes, in today's environment of PC, maybe I should have come up with a different way to describe the title to the thread. I was thinking more of the original skin, and didn't think it was offensive, before or after the update.

Since you bumped the thread up, I never gave the grade for the 1834. It is an AU50, housed in an OGH, and is the Small Date/Small Letters variety.
