Probably my craziest error coin

ElmerFusterpuckElmerFusterpuck Posts: 4,864 ✭✭✭✭✭

I have a small handful of error coins in my collection, mostly off-centers and wrong metal strikes but this "double denomination" cent struck on a dime really caught my eye. It's cool how the date and each denomination is on both sides. Maybe an 11 cent piece?

I have one with nearly the same orientation of the olive branch. Love the look of the Lincoln Memorial through Roosevelts head.

The tote bins used at the mint are used to transport planchets and struck coins. A struck dime got caught in one of the seams of a tote bin and when the tote bin was later used to transport cent planchets, the struck dime got mixed in with the cent planchets.

Nice also that it wasn't the other way around, stuck on a zinc piece that would corrode over time...

That is a nice double denomination. I have seen another version in which both reverses are on the same side. You can thus see "One Cent" and "One Dime" on the same side. :)
