The 2 that didn't cross were ICG. The ones that did cross were 2 ICG and 6 NGC. 6 were MS and 1 was AU & 1 was XF. The 2 less than MS were NGC. π if any of this makes sence.

Thinking of what's involved in accepting a coin to cross from one service to another that is much higher than their average of 40% or so. They have to be totally sure that the coin meets the same standards to crack it out and put it in the premier service's holder. NGC will only cross PCGS coins, all others have to be removed before grading as raw.
For example I sent a Bust 50c that was ICG AU55, and they called it an AU53 and a late date Peace dollar went from 64 to 63; an old Anacs AU58 pan pac went into a 62 holder at PCGS.
Out of 10 coins,. 2 ICG, 1 ANACS, 5 NGC. 1 NGC crossed at a MS 64 from a 63. The NGC was the only one that went up in grade. The rest stayed the same. 2 did not cross at all, both were ICG.
Evidently not, they didn't cross. Came back in the original cases.

2 ICG crossed, two didn't.
PCGS will cross most other companies, I would put "cross at any numerical grade"; they crossed all my ICG coins submitted at one notch down.

what is the benefit to sending them in the holders if it is cross at any grade but if you crack them out yourself you remove any possible bias?

If you crack it out and it doesnβt holder you have a raw coin instead of a coin in a ICG holder.
It looks like any holder may be acceptable, even dealer 2x2s. And the unfortunate bias of what holder people like is persistent. Fortunately few have a bias against PCGS and NGC with cac stickers.
i was under the impression they would automatically crack coins before grading if cross at any grade was selected. there is a small value to them cracking a coin since they have a lot of experience instead someone doing it on their own.
pretty much the only way a coin wouldn't come back in at least a details holder would be pvc/chemical or unverifiable authenticity.
just trying to work out the kinks so if i or anyone reading wants to do this, they can make an informed decision.
NGC cracks all except PCGS coins for whatever reason. With PCGS you could, say, buy a rare coin in a dealer 2x2 or NNC or other holder that has little standing, send to PCGS on their express tier, and get it back in time to still have an acceptable return with a seller.

That's a great batting average @bearcave WTG!! What coins did you cross, and at what grades?

When I get the trueviews I'll post.
My mother waited 12 years of school for me to come home and say I got good grades.... it never happened!
Seriously though 10 of 12 to cross is great! Congrats
HAPPY COLLECTING
Just shows how consistent grading is between the different TPG's which has been my experience as well. Always good to see.
How about showing us the numbers, any upgrades etc. - precross and postcross?
Best, SH

didn't know if you knew for a fact or not. things change with the various TPG from year-to-year, so i had to ask. thanks
I thought I would try them. But PCGS didn't do it.
I believe PCGS will consider any grading service for crossover. Remember they want as many coins in their holders as possible.

Sounds like I did the right thing that way they came back in holder instead of being raw.
