Fellow Forumites,
It would seem as of late we have been overwhelmed with new posters.
Simple questions, such as "What is this?" double die, missing letters and the like.
I would surmise that one or possibly more of these posters are an ALT of someone here, a knowledgeable vetted member having fun with us, of sorts.
I would also take this one step further and state that some of these new members, are new posters and have legitimate questions, on a subject they are just starting to learn about.
I then would ask of one and all to give the benefit-of-doubt to the FNG's.
(This would excuse the -100 guy, since we all know he is FOS)
Thanks for your time and attention to this excruciating matter...
Steve~

Yup but when they post pocket change you know who it is...... Most new members will at lest post something that looks some what nice and maybe a DDO or REV not junk from change it's always junk so you know who it is or his friends giving him a hand in pulling the old coin geek chain here on the board.
Hoard the keys.
I'll take a guess, FNG =forum new guys?

It's all so obvious. Excuse me now. I'm going to go out and shoot some squirrels. You all hash it out.
No-one here is messing with me. But I do get a kick out of watching all the responders taken in with such trivial questions. Let one single solo individual give one simple easy answer to the new poster and just let it ride. First see if the guy is serious and at least, comes back with another question/post to the one answer. But instead, I see a 40 post pile up to an open question and soon, everyone's got their undies all waded up over one inane question. It's amazing to watch, I have to say. I occasionally get a silly question through my website and most of the time, no matter how much I try to soften the answer, I'll end up piss-ing someone off. But some do come back and apologize. It's like a knee-kick response or for some of you, to knee-kick answer.

Yep... there has been some chain yanking lately... However, if a new poster, I try to at least be kind on their first couple of posts..... they could be really starting out... after a while though, it becomes obvious. Cheers, RickO
Agree. It seem to me, it is to try to "gothcha" to other members. While this might be fun once in a while, it discourages others from posting replies. We should not be here to have fun at others expense. I have noticed this as well and have refrained from replying altogether.

Hoard the keys.
These folks are ATS too. They post up stuff like a 1964 cent with low quality pictures that could not tell you anything about doubled dies, machine doubling or anything else that might be unusual. I've tried to explain them to the veteran collectors over there and gently tried to let them down easy as well.
A 1964 cent is 54 years old. (Am I really THAT old? … Yes) When I was a YN in 1964, a 54 year old coin was a 1910 Lincoln Cent or a Liberty Nickel or a piece of Barber coinage. All of those things seemed old and exotic to me at the time. They were almost never found in circulation.
Today these coins crop up in circulation because a cent can’t buy anything, and they don’t circulate that much. Many of them have spent long stretches of their existence in big jars, boxes and dresser drawers. The survival rates are high, even in AU and Mint State. Therefore they have no numismatic value and are of little interest to most seasoned collectors.
After an explanation like this, if they continue clutter the boards with pocket change, perhaps they are playing with us. If so, and we see the same people posting the same type of material, we will know that they are playing with us. If you ignore them, the players will go away.
Agree
If you keep feeding wild animals around your home ( say like trolls ) they soon learn to stick around for an easy meal...stop feeding them and they will leave looking for a new food source..although from time to time they may come back looking for food out of instinct.

@ifthevamzarockin Oh, come on - that's really over the top! No need for that...
@CalifornianKing Maybe just explain the situation to a Mod (i.e., Heather) and ask her nicely to delete that particular post.
Sometimes the best helping hand we can get is a good firm push. (Unknown)

The best way to deal with trolls and other miscreants is to IGNORE THEM. They are after attention in the form of engagement, direct or indirect.
I hate that word.
Which one?

"Ignore?"
Troll?

Gonna pm a mod Good idea

If their questions seem sincere, honest and legitimate, then I will answer. I can smell a troll pretty quick.
