It looks awful clean, but unless you think it’s a lock for MS67 or higher, I wouldn’t...unless you just want to stabilize the color or something.
    It’s a pretty nickel.

I want to stabilize the color. I'd hate to forget about it and come back years later to see a hot mess of darkness.

Then definitely don’t leave it in the Dansco. Maybe cointainer or something, or just send it in with a larger economy order

    Based on the pictures, absolutely.

An airtite is a good solution, or, snap together blank slabs for private use are also available. Cheers, RickO

I'm always for slabbing anything worth preserving regardless of value.

Great transactions with oih82w8, JasonGaming, Moose1913.

I can't really imagine the obverse getting any better color than it has currently - and there is a risk it darkens. It is ripe for the picking and slabbing! Very attractive war nickel!

  • JeffersonFrogJeffersonFrog Posts: 1,091 ✭✭✭✭✭

That is one stunning Jeff. I generally don’t care for strong toning, but yours is really nice. I think it has a shot at 67+ given the color, clean fields and solid strike. It has the one mark that blends in pretty well above the third pillar, and it’s not full steps, but it’s gorgeous.

To preserve it, I would at a minimum put it in a Kointain-like holder. Given your other nice coins in tpg holders, getting it graded by our hosts would be also be a good choice.

Either option will get that beautiful coin off of your countertop (please tell me that’s not concrete/granite in the background) and help preserve it.

If we were all the same, the world would be an incredibly boring place.

That one would probably bring a big toning premium in today's market. It also has a shot at a high grade so even I say go ahead and have it slabbed.

    All glory is fleeting.

Do the letters in the word united, reduce its ceiling? I am weak at grading, so I am just asking the question. The color and jaw line look great.

it is not in a Dansco when picture taken, it has outstanding color

unless I loved it, I would sell and buy more coins

Awesome looking coin. Absolutely think it would would be worth a shot. If nothing else get it in a snap-tite in the mean time.

for a coin like this, fwiw, i would submit it with a few other coins on the economy tier to keep the cost down. if you do submit coins fairly often, also check into private insurance. a basic analysis will tell you if you will be saving a bundle on insurance or not.

if you do, remember to share the order with us. i think we all love that around here!

I say submit it...I had the exact same thing with this Jefferson- too pretty to live in a Dansco and I didn’t want to see it deteriorate. Looks better where it is now.

I want to stabilize the color.

if that's what you want to do, remove it, rinse it in acetone to remove contaminants from the album and store it in something stable. a PCGS holder is no guarantee to stop that tone where it is; if it has something on it, it'll continue to tone.
