This came in a 2x2 with a $65 price tag. I wish I paid $65.

my first thought was AU details depending on how bad those cuts are, she looks pretty banged up on the obverse. now I think XF.

It appears to be AU-50 but can see how it would be reduced to a 45 depending on how it looks in hand.

ive seen such mixed results from the TPGs for coins like this. luster obviously plays a factor but not all au or au+ dark coins have much. crispness and strike go a long way. easy buy as an xf if priced in that range.

i think it is a nice centered strike and a decent strike and has a uniform look even if a bit dark. i'd have to go au but not sure all buyers would bite at that level. great type coin.

It's a liner for sure, detail wise, but I think the dark tone and marks would limit the value to XF/XF+ money.

Looks pretty decent. Could grade AU on days that begin with S, the rest of the days would lean XF-45.

AU50 details. Surfaces and diminished luster may knock it down to 45.

Dipping that coin would produce a disaster. The toning is too deep to remove completely. The results would ugly.

As for grade, I don’t see any luster so it’s an EF at best.

And a dip would really highlight those nasty obverse field hits.

I believe XF45 would be its grade. It might grade AU50 on a great day, but would be harder to sell at that grade's price range.

45--a perfect 45. I really like the look. And I think that dipping this coin would wash it out and would also fail to bring out any underlying luster

No trueviews. The submitter told me PCGS has been tight lately. I am racking it up to that and may regrade it later. May not.

Not sure what you are referring to.

In 2012 Dick Graham published the definitive "A Registry of Die Varieties of Reeded Edge Half Dollars 1836-1839". Our Tom Bush (@TomB) contributed significantly.

Each die marriage was assigned a GR-x number. 1837 had 25 pairs.

    Not that I know of.

Of course you can see examples of each die marriage on Coinfacts. But, unlike capped bust halves, it is difficult to attribute reeded edge halves from photos. Most everything was hubbed not hand-punched, thanks to steam-powered presses, so die differences are often very subtle (unless there were die failures like cracks).
