Yes, another NGC acquisition! Lol. This was a steal. Check out what an Heritage auction went for. For this same proof coin one grade under mine. In a PCGS Pf. 67 DCAM, $450.

    Does it have full steps?

    Do NGC coins sell for the same money as PCGS?

    If you bought from a dealer I assume they can read so I am just trying to figure out the background.

    If a PCGS PR67 DCAM sells for $450 and an NGC PR68 UCAM sells for $13 then there must be a hell of disparity in grading between the two grading services.

    PCGS 68 DCAM’s have sold in the $13 range - I provided a link to one of them in an earlier post. So you can probably forget about the grading disparity.

    Other NGC Pf68 Ultra Cameos avg around $24 on Heritage. So, while not a huge deal, it was still a good buy.

    I don't know if you know this, but Heritage lists prices paid by the winner (i.e. that includes the vig').

    Also, last I checked, Heritage has a minimum vig' of $19. per lot.

    Soooo ... that $24. price history ... $5. coin, $19. dollar fee.

    Not that I think Joey overpaid (necessarily), but I don't think he got all that great of a deal either.

    I admit, if I knew the figure I first came up with wasn't the actual value. I would not of purchased the coin. I truly thought I was getting a deal of a lifetime? Well, almost. Lol.     When I factor in a purchase from Heritage, I factor the cost of buyers fee too which is what that $24 includes. I inconveniently forget the shipping costs and sales taxes (for my state). When it's all said and done they probably paid much more than that $24. It's a common date proof nickel so it's not going to break the bank either way. I'm just pointing out the total costs of acquisition for comparison sake.

    As everyone else has mentioned, proofs not designated as full steps, secondly, any modern pr 69 unless a variety, is worth little to nothing, and i sell crap like this in the shop for 2-3 bucks at most

    Serious offer. If you are selling modern proofs in Proof 68 Ultra Cameo for $2 to $3 each, I will buy a bunch from you. They don't even have to be Jefferson Nickels. I will take cents, dimes, quarters, halves. I have a large orange Home Depot bucket that you can fill to the top. I will buy them all. Interested? PM me.

    He didn't say they'd be slabbed. Any dealer would be overjoyed to sell you proof coins at that price. That's $10 - $15 a set for coins from the late 60s/early 70s, and they'll throw in a free mint case. :smiley:

    @JoeyCoins just think if you had consolidated the money you’ve spent in the last few months on a variety of low value/hard to unload coins (plus slabbing fees) and bought one high quality coin, you’d be on your way to building a nice collection IMHO.

    Of course, we all collect differently and there isn’t a “right” way, but I think in time you may look back and think a little more self discipline would bring more long term satisfaction.
