1914 D Lincoln Cent XF or VF?

Hello, recently purchased a 1914 D Lincoln cent. I was wondering if I could get you guys' opinion on the exact grade of my Lincoln cent because the jump between value of the grades can be quite large. Thanks.

Exact grade? You would in my opinion have to send it in for grading.

I think yours is a high VF for sure, XF40 might be a stretch.
An exact grade from photos with the coin still in a flip covered by plastic.

High VF. The collar is starting to merge with the neck. I'd say VF-30.

Too much wear on the cheek and jaw for XF, I like it as a VF30 with several others.

Yes, agree with VF. Here's my 45 graded by PCGS.

I like it at 30, too, and I’m partially basing that off of my raw one that I bought as XF (and hope, but am not totally convinced that it is). Seeing the @1Mike1 coin gives me more hope, though.

Strong VF- perhaps VF35. The reverse is strong for the grade and the only slight let-down is the bust and portrait of Lincoln. It would need a bit more detail for a full XF. A coin certainly to be proud to own. Congratulations on your purchase- it's a nice match in terms of overall appeal to your 09-S VDB.

Not to hijack the thread but I would grade this coin AU all day long, maybe as high as 55 depending on the luster on the obverse. It's so nice that my first instinct was to question it's authenticity. Great job buying that as an XF.

Thanks @seanq. I was more into Lincolns when I bought it and really liked it then. Seeing that 45 makes me feel good about it. I think it still has the distinction of being the most I've every spent on a coin

Nice looking coin... Perfect for a Whitman or Dansco album. 35 is not unreasonable fora grade. I see it closer to 35 than 30

If I have to give the coin a number I give it 25, VF25. VF30 and 35 should be more uniformly brown in color than the low VFs, the 20 and 25 grades,in my opinion.
It's assessments like I made above using numbers why I don't much care for them. Just call it VF and let the only number associated with the coin be it's price.
Why are there two grades with numbers for FINE (F12 and F15) and two for XF (XF40 and XF45) and four grade numbers for VF (VF20, VF25,VF30 and VF35)? It seems like a logical disconnect to me from a grading standpoint.

send it to pcgs for slabbing and for fifty bucks or so they will give you the correct grade.
