Hello, recently purchased a 1914 D Lincoln cent. I was wondering if I could get you guys' opinion on the exact grade of my Lincoln cent because the jump between value of the grades can be quite large. Thanks.

VF35 from those pictures.
Exact grade? You would in my opinion have to send it in for grading.
VF30

Never a slave to one plastic brand will I ever be.
I think yours is a high VF for sure, XF40 might be a stretch.
An exact grade from photos with the coin still in a flip covered by plastic.
Sorry no one here can do that.
I like it as a vf30

I thought you were the one that didn't want any coins graded? Am I mistaken?
The exact grade is 31.2.
Looks like a solid VF to me

High VF. The collar is starting to merge with the neck. I'd say VF-30.
Nice coin and good strike for a 14-D.

I vehemently disagree.
Using new AI technology, the exact grade is
VF-31.41592653589793238462643383279502884197169399375105820974944592307816406286 ...
(I'll add all the rest of the decimals later.)

Nicer than the one in my Whitman album.

did you get tired? @WinLoseWin
30.
Not yet. But I'm still working on it.
It's like these decimals never end!

I 100 percent agree. It can’t be done.
Appears to me to be mid-VF. Nice coin!

Hey @WinLoseWin , can you please crunch the numbers again?
Too much wear on the cheek and jaw for XF, I like it as a VF30 with several others.

Yes, agree with VF. Here's my 45 graded by PCGS.

VF 30. A nice looking coin.
Me too.
I like it at 30, too, and I’m partially basing that off of my raw one that I bought as XF (and hope, but am not totally convinced that it is). Seeing the @1Mike1 coin gives me more hope, though.
Forgive the crummy phone pics)
Strong VF- perhaps VF35. The reverse is strong for the grade and the only slight let-down is the bust and portrait of Lincoln. It would need a bit more detail for a full XF. A coin certainly to be proud to own. Congratulations on your purchase- it's a nice match in terms of overall appeal to your 09-S VDB.
Based on your second set of pictures, I would say it could go VF35....Good luck, Cheers, RickO
Not to hijack the thread but I would grade this coin AU all day long, maybe as high as 55 depending on the luster on the obverse. It's so nice that my first instinct was to question it's authenticity. Great job buying that as an XF.

Thanks @seanq. I was more into Lincolns when I bought it and really liked it then. Seeing that 45 makes me feel good about it. I think it still has the distinction of being the most I've every spent on a coin Less kids and better bonuses.
Nice looking coin... Perfect for a Whitman or Dansco album. 35 is not unreasonable fora grade. I see it closer to 35 than 30

Thank you everyone for your opinions.
@WinLoseWin busted his calculator
Based on the second set of pictures the actual grade can be determined by the following equation
π + (π3 - √π)
“We are only their care-takers,” he posed, “if we take good care of them, then centuries from now they may still be here … ”

If the above is what grading is turning into, I gotta find a different hobby.

Wait, that's not how they do it ... advanced mathematics with English Darts, over Boilermakers?
Man, I thought I nailed it, and that someone would solve it for me Pete!
Okay, well, that would be a VF 32.375415483 ... hmmmm ... nice coin!

If I have to give the coin a number I give it 25, VF25. VF30 and 35 should be more uniformly brown in color than the low VFs, the 20 and 25 grades,in my opinion.
It's assessments like I made above using numbers why I don't much care for them. Just call it VF and let the only number associated with the coin be it's price.
Why are there two grades with numbers for FINE (F12 and F15) and two for XF (XF40 and XF45) and four grade numbers for VF (VF20, VF25,VF30 and VF35)? It seems like a logical disconnect to me from a grading standpoint.

send it to pcgs for slabbing and for fifty bucks or so they will give you the correct grade.

There appears to be environmental damage on the reverse but I'm not positive without clearer photos.
