Across the entire lettered edge bust half series the most difficult, in terms of eye appeal, are those from 1836. Why, I cannot say. I remember talking with Dick Graham about this a couple of years ago and we agreed.
Here's one I like, among the 23 die marriages. AU58, of course. I have just one more, an MS64 that might make the cut. Another dozen AU's that aren't quite there.

Found in the cornerstone of a church in the south, or so the story goes. A small group of 1851 $5's and others from around this period all show a similar coloration.

Many AU58’s look better than low MS to my eyes. I would be happy with that coin in the NGC slab.
If it looks strong I’d submit to CAC. The cost for another slab effort would not be worth it.

Simply a treat to come back to this thread every day and find 8-10 new pieces that are just Museum quality . . .
To rep the little guy . . . . . an AU58 with superb concentric toning, totally invisible in my spectacular photographs !!! It absolutely IS a $4 coin in AU with a $150 look. That is why I have it . . . . .
Sorry the toning doesn't pop. That will several camera iterations down the line . . . . .
