Surprised

I am definitely surprised....I thought with everyone at home, the forum would be super active with lots of good threads about old coins rediscovered, new coins, interesting literature etc.. However, it seems quite the opposite...fewer new threads, less discussion....Is everyone tied up doing household chores, home schooling or binge watching TV?? Hello out there in forum land... Cheers, RickO

Quiet times.
I'm actually working, but not as much as I pretend to.
All the serial posters have been banned. Insider2 (Where is Insider3?), Glicker version 10?....
Latin American Collection
Been mostly working from home the past month, very fortunate to be able to do that.
Probably because less shows equal less new purchases, though I'm starting to look at the online auctions more than usual. I do have a few coins that will be coming soon, plus I'll post a nice MS-67 39-S Walker soon.
As for some of those 'serial' posters, I really won't miss them at all. They were the equivalent of a pile of lawn sausage at the perfect picnic spot.

My registry sets
I've noticed the same thing. Few new posts.
A few days ago, for reasons unknown, I found that I am again able to add new posts after several months of not being able to do so (I was never banned). I guess I'll have to think of some new topics to get things going again.
Start a CAC thread. They'll be hundreds of posts and more bans.
@ElmerFusterpuck.... Wow.... Looking forward to seeing that MS67 '39S Walker.... Cheers, RickO
@ElmerFusterpuck "They were the equivalent of a pile of lawn sausage at the perfect picnic spot."
LOL.... Don't hold back, tell us how you really feel.
.
Before this is over we may have to start a chart/graph on members banned from the virus.
It has been active for my collection. Some top-notch Liberty Seated Half Dollars have come to market during the emergency. Culminating with this acquisition last week:

Very little television as is typical. Current work also includes getting the old growth ready for dimensioning (see attached picture)
@ElmerFusterpuck I'm here for the MS-67 39-S Walker
I can’t speak for the masses, but for me, this situation has me basically quite busy or distracted to engage deeply in my collection. I made a medal in he early innings of my distancing, but that’s been kinda stalled as this thing escalates.
My businesses have been closed over a month and 10 employees sidelined at the moment. A good portion of the day gets tied up navigating the the gov assistance I can pass onto the crew members, learning new software and zoom meetings and endless social media posts, phone calls, text and emails. My wife and I are stunned at how late it gets before we accomplish what we hoped for the day. Networking with my friend who’s restaurant is closed and one who’s vet clinic is doing curb side. Brain storming and watching the city officials vote in another week of mandated closures. A few days clicked by removing semi valuables and boarding up windows and constantly checking the properties for probes or damage. Wife is doing school work with the kids and we’re trying to keep them healthy and happy. Looking in on my parents and doing the grocery shopping donned in PPE and properly stowing new items which take a lot more time and effort than before, little stuff like that chews the time quick. This all add up to new feelings I haven’t carried before and naturally changing my attitude and outlook. Things I used to find important simply aren’t in the universe of survival mode, and I have it pretty easy compared to a lot of people.
Thankfully, we are healthy at this point. People I know are tending to ill family. There is good news happening too. With some states giving opening a shot I’m definitely interested in watching how that goes and if it can follow that blue print in the coming weeks. Basically I’m trying to say that my mind is mostly on navigating this new normal and being responsible there. I’m sure I’m not the only one.
I check in here mostly out of habit and I enjoy my friends thoughts and input here, collectors have a unique outlook on the world. Still, coins are not a hot topic for me right now. I get email updates from coin dealers and I don’t hardly open them anymore. I wouldn’t want to see a nice coin I wouldn’t buy right now. Without an income I wouldn’t tap my savings for something like a collectible. When we all get our arms around this I’m sure we’ll be able to filter more pleasurable things back into the day. I think this is why we aren’t seeing a high amount of participation on the forum.
@WildIdea.... Excellent analysis and likely applies to most... especially those with businesses or closed income sources.... Best of luck.....Cheers, RickO
I have been trying to catch up on my picture taking of my coins.
@DIMEMAN ... and a fine job you are doing....
I can see a book forthcoming... DIMEMAN's Pictorial Encyclopedia of Dimes.... Do I get a commission for the title??
Cheers, RickO
Actually I have been discovering some coins I even forgot about purchasing. And doing lots of organising, particularly my blackbox collectables - ie contemporary counterfeits.
Another area I have been going through is money that either my father or I saved from various trips around the world. My dad was in Mexico City for the Olympics in 1968 and I found a stash of coins he brought back from there, also another small stash from his tour in SE Asia in the early 1970s. For my stuff I found my money stashed from the Soviet Union and Europe - lot of it save the German marks and Swedish krone are worthless now.
Favourite find, the large sized bronze 50 centavos from Mexico and the silver 50 sen from Japan.
It’s very difficult for me to get excited about buying coins right now. Income from work is down and the 401k is in the toilet. I’m grateful that I have my health and even though things are not great right now I’ll be able to weather the storm. There are a lot of people who have lost their lives, health, jobs, and money so in the overall scheme of things I’m doing quite well.
GORGEOUS early SF half. I love those things. In my book, the early 1850's coins from the S mints are THE "pioneer" coins.
Yours is exceptionally nice.
I also ordered a coin (actually first this year) during the "siege,"
And... a SF mint, too.
You're right RickO. Because I found myself going through some "old coins" in which I keep in a sucrets tin can, all foreign coins! I recently discovered some varieties in the Canadian coin! So, by doing this, many of my threads have been on this New topic, Canadian coins. Through the newly discovered variety aspect, I've found something I've never found in all my days of seeking U.S. coins. A strike-through Mint Set Dime. If I wasn't as bored like in these eventful times, I may have never discovered this exclusive find? Sure, the Dime I found wasn"t in my old can of coins but by going through those (because of boredom) I was eager to go to my favorite shop and hunt down this beautiful Mint Set, with the variety. Also, from all this going on. Not one but two of my threads got poofed. In all my years on the forum, not one of my discussions had ever been poofed. So you see RickO, at least for me, new thoughts and threads keep running through my brain because of the spare time we now all have.
Good Thread you brought to life. This, in itself is a new topic I believe was never brought up!

I am busy with the sideline job as:
I am furloughed
My wife is furloughed
My youngest son, lives at home, recent college graduate, is furloughed.
Yep, 3 for 3.
Not worried or concerned about the $$ as we have resources and are fine.
The wife has become CRAFT GODDESS with PINTEREST being live streamed, which means I get to help. The yard looks great, and the dogs are well walked.
Found a lot of coins stashed, including a small box, about 2 pounds of foreigns, in the garage ???
When was Insider banned?? Hopefully it is just a short time out.
Yesterday. Take a look at the coronavirus hits legend thread.
I've been working! Since we were given the shelter order in MD and the administration at the university mandated online instruction, I've been scrambling to get online learning content specific to my classes. This means going into lab and taking video of the labs that otherwise would have been set up by my students. I've had a few 60+hr weeks over the last month or so...

@lkenefic....I can sympathize to some extent... My wife teaches online (Prof. at college)...She has been doing it for quite sometime, even before retiring....but has to set up the courses (material changes with new textbooks etc.)...and of course discussion boards, grading, online help...Lots of work. Cheers, RickO
You’re lucky you have access to the lab. I work with someone whose husband is a biology professor here in Southern California. He’s able to go to his lab once a week.
I've been working at work as usual, but I will come up with a @ricko approved thread

I just found my moms wedding rings that she hid 10+ years ago.
Everyone thought they were gone.
Too bad she wasn't still here to see it.
I check in at the coin forum daily but don’t have any coin related news myself. Here in Michigan the virus is widespread in the Detroit metro area so my wife and I are extremely careful. I retired from the USPS 4 years ago and had been driving a school bus. It helped give my day a little structure and I enjoy it. The job generates hobby money.
I’m saving up for a coin that I was going to look for at the Pittsburgh ANA. Perhaps next year.
Ricko, I promise that I will do a show report next year on the ANA show. Be well fellow numismatists!
A lot of parents are home schooling there trolls err kids and stuff that needs to be done around the house. You know catch up. Jmo
Same here. Since there is no disconnect from work and home these days, I find myself working even more than usual. If that is the worst thing I'm dealing with, I've got it pretty good.
I expect most people are either tightening the belt or spending time outside since the weather is beginning to get better.
Like SaorAlba, most of my 'discoveries' have been Darkside material, from a hoard purchased ~20 years ago and mostly forgotten about.
I posted a few things over on the Foreign/Ancient forum.
This was kind of neat:
Plenty of home projects that got done.
Finished the basement flooring, replaced half of my backyard decking, built a golf net and re-did the front porch and walkway pavers.
Hard work, but I enjoy it.

Later on I am going to post my great great grandfather's coin purse - with it's original contents. He passed away in 1922 and the coin purse has stayed in the family ever since.
Just found the odds for the number of currently active Glicker alts:
under three current alts: 100:1
over three current alts: 2:1

Fellas, leave the tight pants to the ladies. If I can count the coins in your pockets you better use them to call a tailor. Stay thirsty my friends......
Glicker still lurks? I have an unusual piece in my collection with a Glicker provenance...
Sorry Skier hope America can pick it self up soon and start back up! I guess I been fortunate still working but now with limited people they want us to do more with less! Bad thing is I am salary so I worked for free after all lets work them 7 days to 12 to 16 hours a day since he is salary we can get our monies worth out of him.
Had to work Saturday and Sunday hoping they leave me alone this weekend so I can unpack the small trinket coins I bought and snap a few pictures.
1796 quarter whist counters are very rare.
Is everyone tied up doing household chores, home schooling or binge watching TV??
I could answer "yes" to all three if home-schooling myself counts.

I wonder if his PM function works, but I better not go there.
We have been sheltering in place for the last 5 weeks. I am able to work from home, but have to get to the office a few times a week, because I can't do everything electronically. Some people don't have printers, pay me with a check, want me to mail a tax return, etc.
Things are getting done around the house, and financially, am okay, though am very concerned about the stock market, as that is where my retirement money is placed. Ditto re my business clients, which are a major source of revenue. If they aren't working, they don't have work for me to do, either.
I checked in with my Heritage rep, just to say hello, as I consider him more of a friend than a business associate (given how few coins I've purchased in the last five years, he must feel the same way), and he told me that even now, people are paying strong money for coins.
I wasn't able to do a vacation last year due to circumstances beyond my control, and it looks like more of the same this year. Until my life gets reasonably normal again, coins are not a priority for me. That said, I like checking in with you guys and gals.

While the new threads might be down everytime someone post a newp im usually drooling lol. The amount of knowledge here is available and the picture skills are incredible. I cant wait for the local shows to start back up and see where's the mustard at.
I sit in the shop all day long reading the news, and watching youtube, and the watching the forum, no inventory left, nothing, Ill get maybe 1-2 people stop in all day long. 2 weeks ago, when the stay at home order first hit, I had like 1 customer the whole week. I am technically not open, but there if any body happens to come by needing to sell.
Yesterday, just as I was about to leave, guy comes by needing to sell some gold, that's where the mexico 50 peso coin came from I listed last night. Said he hated to sell it, but his business is shut down, and needs some funds.
Not much plans for the future coin wise. Have conceded the next 6-8 months will center around adjusting to the virus presence new way of life. Spreading out home projects to stay busy through the nice weather. Biking, walking etc. Miss the movie theater and library. Will still stay in touch with the forum and will be enjoying others posted acquisitions. All be well.
Well, I have been selling lots of coins on the boards, finding stuff and just throwing it on. I have noticed lots of sales for lots of people in the last month. So, I think they are lurking!
yeah, it is a bunch of work. If it was just setting up online lectures, or formatting exams for online delivery, or assignments, whatever that would be ok. I teach people to go work in hospital clinical labs, so we're really heavy on the "hands-on" laboratory component of teaching. You just can't do that online.

I've definitely posted less and with good reason.
I am one of the fortunate ones that has been working as if nothing happened, but with less people. We make some foam parts that attach or are a part of medical products like face shields and blood filters, so we are considered essential. What's different is my daughter is home as she was furloughed and my wife works from home every other week, so I spend more time talking to them. Normally I would not see them as they work days and I work evenings. When I get up at 10:30 AM they are usually working and when they come home, I've already left for work and by the time I get home (1:15AM) they are usually both sleeping.
Aside from the virus, I'm enjoying this time and consider myself very fortunate to be able to spend more time with my family. Having worked second shift for over 35 years, I've NEVER spent this much time with my wife or daughter. Even on vacation we are not usually together more than one week.
Stay safe and enjoy your family time, whenever possible.

Boredom has driven me to work on lots of home and yards projects, items I’ve ignored for several years. So not all is lost
