MARCH 18, 2020 UPDATE

Orange County has clarified its emergency order and is now allowing businesses, including Collectors Universe, to resume operations. As a result, Professional Coin Grading Service (PCGS) and Professional Sports Authenticator (PSA) will resume operations, effective immediately.

As evident by the multiple policy changes, the situation remains extremely fluid. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we navigate this ordeal. Ultimately, we are committed to both the health and safety of our employees and the delivery of our services to our loyal customers.

Sincerely,

Brett Charville
President, PCGS

I am happy for the members who have submissions in the process.... I hope precautions are taken at the office. My place of work is still open and operating (will be there in a couple of hours)...Due to the recent restrictions, it will be interesting to see how much business comes in...Cheers, RickO

I’m sure PCGS will have good policies in place to ensure the safety of all their employees. It may mean that the process proceeds but is slower by some amount. That’s a fine and reasonable compromise. If everyone works together, smartly, and exercises appropriate precautions there’s no reason why any particular business shouldn’t be open.

Great move and a much welcome personal sacrifice by all still at work for the health of the entire coin market!. I'm sure employees have been told not to come to work with any symptoms. For example, we have been self monitoring our temperatures here. THANK YOU ALL and Be safe!!

If employees drive to work and take reasonable precautions in the office, the risk of infection due to work should be extremely small.

You must consider 300ish employees, their family, friends, neighbors that allow may be going to work, grocery stores, doctors, post office interacting with them . Add it up and you are talking many thousands in contact with these employees that may "take reasonable precautions". Stay home, be safe. Maybe this will be over by he 4th of july. Return of coins are a minor consideration given the circumstances. J.P.

California governor just released a stay and home order earlier this evening for the whole state? At least that is what MSNBC announced a few minutes ago.

    Edited to add:
Looked it up, here are the details:
"The governor of California on Thursday evening issued a statewide stay-at-home order to help combat the spread of the coronavirus.

The order, which takes effect Thursday night, asks residents to leave their homes only when necessary. It will remain in place until further notice.

Gov. Gavin Newsom's announcement came less than an hour after officials in Los Angeles County ordered people to stay home except for essential needs or jobs and for indoor shopping malls and nonessential retail to close.

San Francisco and surrounding counties had previously issued orders to stay at home to stop the spread of the coronavirus and the illness it causes, COVID-19."

It is estimated that around 20% of individuals carry the virus asymptomatically yet still shed it.

Just stay home, it is a necessary precaution. It was a bit reckless of PCGS to reopen anyway. Shut it down!

LOL, how stupid. Rather than take care of the "pockets" of virus. My friends in Barstow, Big Bear, Indigo, Twentynine Palms, and thousands of other places in CA will have their lives, and fortunes RUINED for years! I've decided to delete the rest of this post but half the fun was writing it. >:)

Are you going to spend the "free money" we all get on coins?
