A Key for the V set

I generally have been staying on the down low, but sometimes opportunity strikes. I’ve been working on a PCGS toned Liberty Nickel set since 2011, and it just took a major step to completion, leaving just the 1885.
While not a perfect match for the rest of the toned set, I'd come to the conclusion that I might never find this particular date with matching color. In fact it seemed hard enough to find anything approaching eye appeal for my target grade and price range. What this piece DOES have, relative to its peers and for the price, is an awesome strike. Check out the details across all the stars, the detail in the bun and hair line and the definition in the ear of corn. The images if from the seller and is a reasonable depiction, perhaps a bit darker in hand on the obverse, while the reverse seems a bit lighter, more lustrous and with a more distinct rim to center contrast than the image suggests. I don’t really see upgrading this any time soon – it was a stretch enough as it was. Let me know what you guys think!

A very nice 86 with a killer strike.
Very nice....and in an older holder to boot.

Yep-I noticed the strike right away. That's an exceptional coin for sure.
Superb detail on both obverse and reverse....that is one super V nickel....Cheers, RickO
Nice looking coin, Congratulations on the pickup!
U.S. Type Set
Great looking coin.
I'll stick my neck out first......is it an ms64 or a very strict 63?

Fantastic!
Star 7 on the obverse and the left corn on the reverse are the weakest points for strike on the Liberty Nickel. Both are full on this coin. I like the obverse die crack. There is a bit of what appears to be dip residue between the D in United and S in States on the reverse, which is not an issue for me, but I need to point this out.
From the pic, it appears to have satin luster; if it's an even satin luster, it's a more attractive coin. Depending on its eye appeal, I am guessing the contact marks will keep the coin in an MS 63 or MS 64 grade. Might add I think either 20 or 40 of these (and 20 or 40 2 S coins), all in Unc., were 'discovered' and graded in the last few years. I don't think this will hurt this coin, price wise.

I like the RIDB on the obv. Gotta love a strong strike to study the details. Peace Roy

Strong repunching on the second 8??
Definitely a strong strike. I considered doing a set at one time...then realized I already painted myself into a corner with the 3-Cent Nickels.
Yes, that indeed looks like repunching on the 8 in the date
Nice addition to the set, really nice strike.
Good luck finding the 85, hope one finds you at the right time.
Thanks to the group for pointing out the doubling on the ‘8’. Die features like clashes, cracks or doubling add a coolness factor for me. I had not noticed that when I placed my bid, so that is a bit of a bonus!
The coin grades 63. I think it is accurately graded since it lacks the blast to get it to 64.

Nice one, Alain.
The strike rivals the one on my Proof '86 nickel!
Really nice coin, must be a super V set.
Nice pickup. I too like the strike on it. She is a beauty.
