There are plenty of monsters to be obtained. Whether it be Mr. Horenchuk's complete run of hockey wax boxes from 1951 through 1980, or Mr. Simmon's complete run of baseball wax boxes from 1950 through 1971. Or perhaps it is Gordie Howe's mint uncut sheet of 1951 parkhurst that he got for free for doing a golf tournament, and now that he's gone, his family is consigning it, or perhaps it is the mint 1952 topps baseball uncut sheets from that owner in St. Louis. It can be any of the above, or countless other "monsters" that are out there, and probably will never see the light of day. All I can say, is that I'm looking forward to seeing it, whatever it is.

This post is like a bedtime story for adult collectors. Thank you.

They were legit. Many of the graded packs today came from that find.

the find was out west--I am thinking Vegas. An old woman found a stack of packs--maybe 40? He was selling them direct from his site for $1K and then on eBay and they were going for $1200. I just kicked myself again for not pulling the trigger back then--maybe 2002

So these are magically worth 6.25x each in an 8-pack brick? I don't get it.

It looks like BBCE does not know marketing 101. Would be gone if they had priced it $547,999.99 like the rest of the retail world does!

Seriously would be cool if someone bought and opened them. Less cool but more realistic someone buys and stores them away and someday lets them go a pack at a time in auction.

Hope they are still there to take a gander at when I get there on Friday.

I'm not sure how to even price something like that but imo, it just seems waaaay too over priced, but who knows. Especially if its not the "Mantle" high series. Makes more sense to just purchase a PSA 7 or even an ugly PSA 8. I guess they'll entertain offers. Better to go high than low.

This would be justifiable suicide if someone were to open it and get a complete bust.

Steve said he is selling as series 1, as the rest of the packs from that find were series 1. So, no Mantles presumably.

At say $500,000 with 40 cards, that's a brutal price of 12.5k per card if it's not a high series.

And of course no guarantee of centering, and the cards could possibly max out to PSA 7 or 8. Certainly no guarantee of any 9's.

It's a buy or break only for those whereby money is no object.

Could possibly wind-up in the hands of Vintage Breaks? Vintage Breaks has probably already made them an offer.

Even though the price is insanely high, I doubt anyone would go bust when every 9 opened would be thousands of any player. Pafko would pay for the break cost in a top pop grade as well.

I personally don't agree with that. Most players in that set in a 9 range would generally be in the 3K range (and that's leaning more towards the lower end side). Pafko is just one other name is a set of 407 cards. In that set, there are about 13 key cards really that could make it worth wild. What we know is that card 311 will not be one of those cards and when you're spending over half a million on a pack, there better be the possibility of a 52 Mantle inside out of 8 cards. This is simply over priced and there is virtually no chance of winning by opening that pack, let alone a low series pack.

It is a total of 8 packs for that price. Still pricey but the rarity of the unopened wax pack is what your paying for, not the cards inside.

I believe Series 1 is only cards 1 to 80 so pretty good shot at a Pafko in there. HOF in the series are Spahn, Snider, Rizzuto, Irvin, Roberts and Slaughter.

There are a lot of really low pop high grade commons in that series.

Now I would take the Mantle and the cash for sure - but if you are in the market for this brick at this price you probably already have a Mantle.

This should be from the Mark Murphy find. They were series one and were housed in 8 pack cello bricks. The price is clearly astronomical but I wouldn't be surprised if someone like Hank Steinbrenner bought it just for the fun of ripping it. According to net worth estimates, he's worth $3.8 billion. That's equivalent to a person worth $1 million spending $150 on the item. That would be worth the fun.
