Why can't they strike them at the Carson City Mint? It's still there and is now a museum with original presses still there. The Philadelphia Mint can provide the dies and all of the planchets. It's definitely doable.

The original press would need to be refitted. Recently they stopped striking dollar sized pieces due to the age and fragility of the vintage press. The largest size they do know is half dollar size.

Exactly! That was the point of my post in this thread a few days ago -- the fake look! Why can't they make an attempt to produce these coins with the same approach that was used for the originals and make them look like the originals (including 90% silver)?

A 2021 Peace commem would be a hit, 100th anniversary of a wonderful design. Maybe offer it in gold and silver, please no 3/4 oz. pieces like the Kennedy. The 2021 CC Morgan, I'm shakin my head on that one, no relevance to anything really, no CC dollars struck in 1921, bad concept imo.

I'm skeptical on how they will replicate it. They done the American Silver Eagles and St Gauden Gold bullion coins justice. I'm sure they can get an engraver to do the same for the Morgan's and Peace dollars. Fingers crossed if this thing goes through.

So here we are, a couple of months on and there are 15 co-sponsors. Typically a bill like this needs many more - for example the recent Christa McAuliffe Commemorative Coin Act of 2019 had 83 of 100 senators as co-sponsors.

I'd rather have Daniel Carr just do overstrikes with his press - on site in Carson City. At least I know I will get something collectible and not US mint BS

Anniversary 2021 Morgan dollar may have to be made of gold

Ryder suggested as such at the Annual Numismatic Forum.

With proposed legislation seeking commemorative Morgan and Peace silver dollars for 2021 languishing in Congress, the U.S. Mint is looking at a possible alternative: a 2021-CC Morgan gold dollar.

One of the 2021 commems will the the McAuliffe dollar. The other is still up for grabs. Interestingly:

David Croft, U.S. Mint associate director for manufacturing, noted that transporting the necessary coinage press to Carson City from either San Francisco or Denver, along with its setup and maintenance, would cost roughly $1.8 million.

If they do it in gold, I'm out. We had the centennial coinage in gold. I have no desire for a $1900 Morgan....

Still a longshot, I think. It's up to 23 cosponsors, with some democrats finally coming on board in the past couple of weeks. (7 of those 23 signed on this month.) Still a long way to go...
