Evaluating a collection for possible purchase. This is a sample from a larger collection I’ve been given to look at.
This is the most fun to me, going through what someone else put up years ago. This one has some newer stuff mixed in, and I see a lot of potential in whatever else may be waiting for me.

    I helped a coworker friend, once, by appraising his father's collection after he passed away, so that my friend wouldn't get taken advantage of by the sharks. He had a lot of cool stuff including a lot of raw silver dollars. He eventually sold it for a price that he was happy with and that I approved of.

    Personally, I'm sick and tired of the hunt. These days, I like to kick back with a cold one and just study, enjoy and reflect on what I have accomplished and accumulated. That's what makes me happy. But I still keep my eyes open 'just in case'.

    I enjoy the hunt & arrival of new purchases, but I actually enjoy looking at my coins. It's the most relaxing.

    could be some 1877 Indian Heads in there, look close. It's always full to look at older collections never know what might turn up , have fun searching.

    That's my favorite pastime as well. Any time I get an opportunity to look through or purchase another collection I have the best time researching and discovering... you never know what may be in those piles!

    The 95-O dime is usually missing. This one is only AG but hey, it’s there.
    The client is trying to learn what he has which was inherited and wants to start with this group. I really hope there are some more “pennY” boards.

    Always fun to look at a collection such as the one described in the OP.

    If my collection was viewed by another, I wonder what the viewer would think of it and of me?

    Probably:

    1. Nice looking widgets covering a broad segment of US coin series; and

    2. This guy is afflicted with OCD.

    I enjoy the hunt, the find, the acquisition, filling holes, upgrading, studying, learning, and interacting with dealers and other collectors.

    Very nice! I envy you, dude. Good luck. The first coin I would examine closely is that 1888 Indian Cent in the album, it could be the BIG BABY? 1888/7 ;) My happiest moment in collecting is when I hunt down that elusive variety/error coin! Whether, in the wild(in change or in a public place) or at a coin shop/coin show. Great feeling. <3

    I always enjoy looking at coins but what makes me happiest is finding the coin I want to buy and holding it in my hands. Today I acquired two 66 Morgans (one PL). That made me very happy.

    Cherry picking dealers.
    If I like the dealer, I tell them of my find and price accordingly. If I don't (and there are many) I don't tell them.

    Looking at a new cherrypick, in hand, under good lighting, through a loupe and discovering that up close it is much better in quality and eye appeal than I thought it was when I decided to buy it.

    Especially when it significantly upgrades my current best example of the same coin.

    That’s a pretty neat dime board. I didn’t realize that Barber Dimes used to be called Morgan Dimes.

    One of my favorite things to do is research coins through auction archives and trace them back. I won a lot in a Heritage auction a few weeks ago, and I traced it back to three prior Heritage auctions and a Bowers Merena auction from 1999. It was formerly in an NGC holder with a CAC sticker. It was attributed to the Gardner collection in the first Heritage auction. Over the past 20 years it’s been crossed over to PCGS and then cracked out for an upgrade and since lost its pedigree as it was not mentioned in the most recent auction. I love digging back and tracking a coin like this.
