Evaluating a collection for possible purchase. This is a sample from a larger collection I’ve been given to look at.
This is the most fun to me, going through what someone else put up years ago. This one has some newer stuff mixed in, and I see a lot of potential in whatever else may be waiting for me.

Plugging holes, for me.

I helped a coworker friend, once, by appraising his father's collection after he passed away, so that my friend wouldn't get taken advantage of by the sharks. He had a lot of cool stuff including a lot of raw silver dollars. He eventually sold it for a price that he was happy with and that I approved of.
Personally, I'm sick and tired of the hunt. These days, I like to kick back with a cold one and just study, enjoy and reflect on what I have accomplished and accumulated. That's what makes me happy. But I still keep my eyes open 'just in case'.
Sometimes, it’s better to be LUCKY than good. 🍀 🍺👍

Some nice coins in those pics.
I enjoy the hunt & arrival of new purchases, but I actually enjoy looking at my coins. It's the most relaxing.
could be some 1877 Indian Heads in there, look close. It's always full to look at older collections never know what might turn up , have fun searching.
That's my favorite pastime as well. Any time I get an opportunity to look through or purchase another collection I have the best time researching and discovering... you never know what may be in those piles!

Kid in a candy,store. I can relate.
Dude, I like your style.
Submit that pickle for grading! Appears to be at least MS65.
The 95-O dime is usually missing. This one is only AG but hey, it’s there.
The client is trying to learn what he has which was inherited and wants to start with this group. I really hope there are some more “pennY” boards.
That Indian Head Cent Whitman folder brings back good 50-year old memories to me.
Always fun to look at a collection such as the one described in the OP.
If my collection was viewed by another, I wonder what the viewer would think of it and of me?
Probably:
Nice looking widgets covering a broad segment of US coin series; and
This guy is afflicted with OCD.
I enjoy the hunt, the find, the acquisition, filling holes, upgrading, studying, learning, and interacting with dealers and other collectors.
cool! i like doing that too. but i guess for me it's finding a silver in the coinstar reject slot. lol
Very nice! I envy you, dude. Good luck. The first coin I would examine closely is that 1888 Indian Cent in the album, it could be the BIG BABY? 1888/7 My happiest moment in collecting is when I hunt down that elusive variety/error coin! Whether, in the wild(in change or in a public place) or at a coin shop/coin show. Great feeling.

Plugging holes in Whitman folders were the good old days.
I see a Heinz pickle pin in there!
HAPPY COLLECTING

I’ll have Check that it’s all still there. Also learned there is more.
Good stuff

Buying pre-33 gold! The thrill of the hunt. Having something jump out at me on the BS&T forum!
But I think you've already figured that out...

Winning a coin at auction below bid.
It's a sliding scale of happiness on the percent below bid ..............
I always enjoy looking at coins but what makes me happiest is finding the coin I want to buy and holding it in my hands. Today I acquired two 66 Morgans (one PL). That made me very happy.

Cherry picking dealers.
If I like the dealer, I tell them of my find and price accordingly. If I don't (and there are many) I don't tell them.

The most fun? Finding a coin that absolutely, positively has all the attributes I'm looking for. They're few and far between.
Here's one:
I sold it.

Right now I would feel awesome if my registered package makes it to PCGS... it shows “on route” and has since Wednesday evening when original delivery date was Friday. Sorry, venting.

(Successfully) cherrypicking for die varieties. Unfortunately I don't do much of it any more, tho.
Hand picking problem free junk silver at my LCS.
Looking at a new cherrypick, in hand, under good lighting, through a loupe and discovering that up close it is much better in quality and eye appeal than I thought it was when I decided to buy it.
Especially when it significantly upgrades my current best example of the same coin.
May sound like blowing smoke butt…
I really enjoy reading this Collector’s Universe Coin Form almost every night before retiring.
I especially enjoy it when the subject is about a series or piece I own but I also get a great deal of pleasure when a member finds their “dream” coin or completes that series after 20 years of effort.
I like posts on varieties and errors especially if it makes me pull out my pieces to see if I have a match. That gets me started and then somehow it is 2 am and I have a pile of stuff to put back. That is fun for me. I also enjoy posting a question or opinion that gets others of similar interest or expertise to enlighten me.
However, my most favorite thing is to see someone post an image of a variety coin but the poster is not aware. I enjoy letting the person know that the piece is special in some way. The satisfaction of helping someone to learn something new is very gratifying.
Thank you all!
I'm happiest when I find out I'm in the CU forums jail.
Nice coins! Enjoy.
On my way to the post office to receive my latest addition....
Cherry picking a Raw coin in eBay knowing once it’s graded and attributed by our host you will have the pop 1 example.

That’s a pretty neat dime board. I didn’t realize that Barber Dimes used to be called Morgan Dimes.
One of my favorite things to do is research coins through auction archives and trace them back. I won a lot in a Heritage auction a few weeks ago, and I traced it back to three prior Heritage auctions and a Bowers Merena auction from 1999. It was formerly in an NGC holder with a CAC sticker. It was attributed to the Gardner collection in the first Heritage auction. Over the past 20 years it’s been crossed over to PCGS and then cracked out for an upgrade and since lost its pedigree as it was not mentioned in the most recent auction. I love digging back and tracking a coin like this.
Sharing my collection with others, preferably with someone like minded.
