Are there any other diagnostics for the D/S and D/D besides the obvious mint marks?

There are several D/S varieties too.
I know of none. Actually, I think you're the first one that ever asked.

Since these were never counterfeited long ago and the D/D's especially are not anything exceptional, no diagnostics were needed. Just look at the mintmarks. Anyone can start examining the Uncs a perhaps find something worthwhile.
Well, there is one for sale online and the pics are good, but get a bit fuzzy looking at the mint mark, so I was trying to figure out why it was going for so much money!

The mint marks are very small and hard to photograph unless you have a decent macro zoom lens

I thought I saw the DD going for around $12 on eBay a while ago. I haven't checked in some time though.

I fancy myself as a Buff and variety collector, but even this conglomeration of mintmark is bit too far in the weeds.
They are most fun to find raw or unattributed.
They are so plentiful, I generally don't pay much of a premium.
It would be interesting to know which (if any) have a scarcity.

You basically have to go on the mintmark(s) itself
I would include the 1938-d/s dies one and 2 in a basic set of buffs because they are clear. And I would also include one of two of the most clear d/d prepunched mintmark.
