I've always wondered how some of these coins get rotated. Ones I have cracked fit tight in the insert and it was straight when they holdered it !

Wouldn’t gassing make this more uniform???
EDM had so many of these for sale at one point you could see the same colors with all kinds of toning patterns. Not sure if his were gassed but these colors came in many different patterns for sale at one time.

EDM's AT methods lately might be getting slabbed not gassed?
As he's showing true-views in his listings lately and you can't gas them.
To Err Is Human.... To Collect Err's Is Just Too Much Darn Tootin Fun!
At one point EDM had a bunch of Peace Dollars with TrueViews that have since been disavowed - the certs no longer validate. The latest ones he has for sale look much better than the first set of TrueViews, though there don't seem to be any Peace Dollars lately.
Here are two I believe were from the first set of EDM TrueView offerings.

One theory that has been posted is that the coins are gassed and reholdered with Gold Shield and TrueViews.
I'm not really sure. Though the ones lately look much better than earlier ones circa 2017 and 2018, and there are many top pops as well.

I don’t think that would necessarily be the case.
It won't necessarily be completely uniform. If there is a bigger crack in that one corner, the gas would be more concentrated on that one end. However, I would expect it to be more uniform obverse/reverse and no longer blast white on the other side. It looks more like it was in physical contact with the sulfurating material.
EDM was gassing already graded coins, then sending them back in for re-holders and TrueViews. This way he could fool even more people into thinking it was natural toning.
I don;t think these were gassed and I think they are being graded as is. It is really easy to make this burnt color.
I will not elaborate any further, but I think a lot of you OLD TIMERS know what is going on.
I think that it is from a poorly rinsed dip that has attacked the coin. It would not surprise me that that coin was all white when it was slabbed. That type of toning is heading toward the terminal black state that results when the toning can go no further.
Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

I hope EDM (and his alts) are gone forever. He has a couple of pretenders currently listing on ebay but their work should fool no one.
They look very much alive and kicking to me. EDM and MNS have similar looking PCGS GS TV coins both have lots of active sales. Not sure if they are related or just both happen to be in Florida.
PCGS has been asking for proof. Otherwise, I’m not sure anything can be done.
Right you are Zoins. I just brought up a ton of their junk. There hasn't been anything in the things I search for in a long time, tho. If they are gassing coins in slabs it seems to me that there might be a legal problem with that.
Obvious at and has been gassed in the holder as has been shown in past threads. One thing to note also is all the peace dollars with this look in pcgs holders that I have seen are all graded ms63.
I have never seen a ms64 or 65 with this obvious at look to it in pcgs plastic.
I bought an all white coin from a reputable dealer in a MS64 PCGS holder. Two years later I found a similar look while being in my safe deposit box. I showed it to two dealers who asked "What happened to this coin?" Both agreed it was from a poorly rinsed dip that attacked the coin. The dealer who sold me the coin bought it back and put it in a Heritage Auction where it ended up on a National Dealer's inventory's website for six plus months and then finally sold again.

Great transactions with oih82w8, JasonGaming, Moose1913.
FUGLY
Almost definitely not gassed in the holder. It would be more uniform on obverse and reverse.
In my opinion
Yes and way fugly
More likely enhanced images IMO.

Hard to tell what caused this. I do know I don't care for this type of toning.
Looks like toning from Orlando.
Lots of PCGS Peace dollars with that look were sold by EDM.
Here are some clearer pics

That's pretty cool but that coin is thin..... lettered edge. Peace dollars I have opened are in there pretty tight.
This was previously sold a year ago on the bay on Feb 27, 2018, without the NIPX sticker at the time.

No. Air leak on same edge of holder.

The Gen 6.0 holders may be pretty tightly sealed, but the holder in the OP looks like a OBH holder, Gen 4.0 to 4.5?
I’ve seen that color before even darker I think it’s a reaction to what ever it was stored in maybe a dirty corner of the bottom of the bag

Wow.
Anodizing, perhaps.

I must admit, I am quite surprised by many of the responses.
In or out of slab, it is still AT..... in slab is not difficult for today's skilled coin doctors.... Cheers, RickO

I've dipped THOUSANDS of coins. I have never seen an improperly neutralized silver coin turn any color except shades of BROWN.

I find it ugly, therefore market unacceptable (i.e., I wouldn't buy it). Exactly how it got that way is anyone's guess.
