NEWP for the gold proof type set 1894 $5

This came to me in a curious manner but I’m glad it did. Doug Winter planted the seed awhile ago that its cool to add a serious pedigree coin in the type set. Pittman seemed to make the most sense. I hope his coin acumen rubs off on me even if it’s just a little.

Always buying nice toned coins! Searching for a low grade 1873 Arrows DDO Dime and 1842-O Small Date Quarter.

It’s too late for me to get involved in this area of Proof gold.

A cool coin.
Hope you make the return on investment that Pittman made. That might be a little tough to do even though it appears the 1894 was his highest cost half eagle.

19th Century proof gold is something very special. Glad you were able to add this special piece to your growing collection.
Every time I think of John J. Pittman, I see this image of a man standing in the aisle of the auction floor like the Statue of Liberty with his paddle in the air, staring, glaring, and daring anyone to bid against him!

Now that’s a nice one 👍
Great pick up, Mark. Love the Pittman label as well.
Great looking gold proof.
In 1976 at the New York ANA Pittman displayed his run of gold proof sets. It was quite an exhibit especially for a "younger" numismatist to view!
