i spoke to Jim Furyk this past weekend and the first thing he said to me was, "tell coinstartled to behave."

i'm as ardent a Spieth fan as you'll find, but i wouldn't touch him @ 20/1. his showing in a very weak field at the Valero this weekend was his best of the season.......T30(!)

ANGC is his playground, but not while he's trying to find consistency in his game

3 long shots worth a sprinkle:

    Cantlay (70/1)
    Howell III (125/1)
    An (190/1)

Should have asked him, if he were winning the Masters, whether his caddy would have pulled him after three rounds if his shot count was 204?

not sure where coin got this list

i'll need more attractive odds than 190/1 for Byeong Hun An, seeing as he's not even in the field :p

Too hard to pick a winner.

Better to bet the head to head wagers.

"A bettor has placed an $85,000 wager on Tiger Woods to win the 2019 Masters at 14-1 odds, per Darren Rovell of The Action Network.

Rovell reported that the bet, which was made at a William Hill sportsbook in Nevada, would pay out $1.19 million if Woods wins.

Woods, a four-time Masters champion, has 13 top-10 finishes at the major, which is held at Augusta National Golf Club in Augusta, Georgia."__

A typical football game against the spread has a 4.55% bookies vig. And we all know how "easy" it is to make money betting on football games.

These golf tournaments have a typical bookie vig of around 12% to 20% and sometimes higher than that. An 85k bet against a 12% to 20% vig, is an absolute delight for a sportsbook such as William Hill.

But don't be too depressed about losing the 85k, because William Hill will be happy to comp you to a room and some meals to show you their gratitude...that will cheer ya up.

I would like to amend my earlier statement to say that I will pleasantly surprised if Jordan Spieth still has his tour card a year from now. I don't know why he has forgotten how to play golf, but he and Rick Ankiel will be swapping "remember when we were good" stories soon.

Well all good and well but Tiger has a group of 8 players that are either tied or one better. Including the two golfers that are a stroke behind, 14 to one after two rounds is still a reasonable line. Also bookmakers often lay off large wagers. Doubt that in the aggregate any golf tournament has ever dinged the house.

He wouldn't take it. Woods chances to win, having gotten off to a good start, are greater than they were before the tournament began.

One site i checked now has Woods at 6-1. The gambler got 14-1 odds on the ticket, so "technically" the ticket has approximately doubled its value.

  • galaxy27galaxy27 Posts: 7,112 ✭✭✭✭✭

Tiger needs to name his putter 'paradox'

inside of 10 ft he's almost last in the field, otherwise he'd have about a 4-5 shot lead right now..........yet he's numero uno when it comes to anything outside of 10

seems like every time he has missed a 5-footer without a hint of break, he follows up on the very next hole by dunking a 25-ft bender. or vice versa

A William Hill isn't laying anything off. You're talking about local bookies who do that.

I don't disagree with ya that 14-1 on Woods is still a reasonable line. That one book i mentioned which has Woods now at 6-1, in my opinion is one of those times whereby the books really jacked up the vig well above 20%.

Even for a William Hill, getting dinged for 1.19 million, stings a bit.

I have no idea what their total handle is on this Masters. But don't forget, Woods is a fan favorite with a lot of people and so there is other money bet on him as well.

I'd be certain, that right now William Hill would prefer seeing Tiger Woods lose.

All that being said, getting dinged by a winning big bet, and a bookie taking a loss on a specific sports event, has happened to them in the past, and it will happen again. So if Woods wins, internally they'll gripe about it somewhat. However they are rest assured that with future golf tournaments and other sports events, it all comes back to them eventually.

Woods had a nice round of golf today, no doubt about it.

We shall see if he performs good enough in the next two rounds to beat the others.

Remember as far as the 85K bet is concerned, if Woods loses by just one stroke, it doesn't do the gambler any good. They don't pay off on win bets if the horse loses by a nose. ;)

Hill scores a home run if Woods wins it. We are already discussing the company and the wager and they have yet to pay out a dime. Wood's snaps his 11 year major drought with a win Sunday and it is the biggest story of any category for three days.

They could hand the bettor $10,000,000 and still be ahead.

While I disagree with ya about the specific monetary situation for William Hill on the 2019 Masters. I do agree with ya that the publicity generated from this gambler winning the bet, would likely lead to more business for them, and in the long run generate more revenue than the loss they would take on this bet.

That being said, bookies don't like to lose money on any sports event. I believe William Hill still wants Woods to lose...and the chances are still better that Woods will lose.

Thought about that as well, DA, but that was 40 plus tournaments and 11 years ago. Woods has been through a bunch of surgeries a divorce and a DUI. By all rights he should be watching on a large screen somewhere sipping beer and eating Pepperidge Farm goldfish.

btw a little love for Bernhard Langer. he has more than proved his mettle on the champions tour, but being under par and making the cut at the Masters while being outdriven by 40-50 yards and hitting 4-5 clubs more into greens on every hole is so incredibly impressive

he is a machine and one badass 61-yr-old golfer
