Just crossed a NGC 67* to PCGS 67 how long should I wait to resubmit for a plus?

I have a coin that I over paid for bc it was so nice, it crossed but would like to try for a 67+. Just got coin back from PCGS would it be foolish to retry immediately or wait a few months?

You bought the coin, why would you keep buying opinions of it?

Not a waste imho when price almost doubles. To each his own I play the game.

If you don't have images handy at least let us know what it is.

The game is worth playing if there a chance it will work. I’ll admit that I might be out of my depth when comes to going from MS-67 to MS-67+. I played game from MS-63 to 64 or even AU-58 to MS-63. To me a + is a matter of getting a break.

Better to start now, who knows how many times it will take to get the plus. If you think it's worthy, eventually you will get a day where 2 others agree at the same time.

I would turn it right around and back to PCGS if it was worth it and I thought it deserved the + designation.

Then no reason to wait. I'd send it right back in.

If it is deserving of a plus in your opinion, then others are likely to agree, regardless of what the PCGS slab indicates. If you add the plus, I believe you pay the grading fee and a percentage of the bump in value.

1955-P ms 67. Last 67+ went for 12k, regular 67 goes $500. It will go 67+ similar stats on this one.

Nah. If the only difference is 11.5K I'd not bother with it.

Just because one coin sold for a certain amount does not mean the next will.

When there is a top pop coin like that and you have a bidding war from registry people the bidding can go insane.

Anyhow to answer your question there is no “wait time”.

    Good luck.

If I thought it deserved it, I would send it in as soon as I needed to (ie...if I wanted it in my registry set right away or was selling it soon), or when I had a suitable submission group to send in, to share the shipping costs across multiple coins.

I've resubmitted the same coins at the same show "Walkthrough" if I felt the coin warranted it. Personally, If I thought I coin graded 67+, I would have cracked it out of the NGC 67 holder and let the graders see it raw in the first place.

Not until I fail or succeed, little superstitious when comes to showing my hand before I play. I will show it. I have gotten many upgrades in past, not knew to the game, never resubmitted so quickly is why I asked the original post.

$35 to get a return on investment of $12k. Uhhhh? Sorry, I don't understand the question.

I thought such an upgrade triggered the guarantee premium of an additional one percent? Am I mistaken about that?

I believe you are correct unless that was recently changed. Still 1% of an $12k gain is $120 dropping the ROI to $11,880.

Regrades are charged just the grading fee cost. Reconsiderations are charged 1% (as are crossovers) plus the actual grading fee.

  • lavalava Posts: 3,286 ✭✭✭

Thanks VH. I agree the numbers warrant reconsideration.

If you were going to get the plus, they would have done it and taken the 1% on the cross. No way they give an 11K bump and tie for top pop. Not with today's tightening.

  • bobsrbobsr Posts: 392 ✭✭✭✭

Well Lava, If it was cracked out and blindly resubmitted, they wouldn't be thinking "upgrade" they would be thinking 1% and prestige of certifying another news worthy coin. If the coin is worthy of a plus grade, it is in their best interest to give it. And there are not multiple experts that spread the wealth around. I'm positive that the same grading expert that looked at that coin originally will be the same one to look at it again, and If it was mine, Again and again . And even with todays tightening, a tie for top pop will create a newsworthy splash for our hosts.

Better to try to CAC it.

Would there be buyers at the $12k level or have the (competitive)registry sets been satisfied?

Unless it Golds, this will only add a few bucks to the coin. NOT 11K.

Actually, I would bet that a 67CAC and a 67+ no CAC might be pretty close in price

No chance. A 67 CAC on a $500 coin isn't going to fetch anywhere near five figures. The green bean isn't magical despite what some here believe (comment not targeted at you).
