How would you grade this $20? I'll give likely grades as 53, 55, 58, 60 or 61, but it could be another "details" coin.

Well, I just posted a 58 that is 1 year older than yours....so I'm thinking 53 ish.

I would grade it AU-55. The Type II $20 gold is very scarce in Strict Unc., and rare in MS-64 and higher. The reason is that have been no shipwreck coins like the SS Central America coins. Twenty bucks was a lot of money for old time collectors to save from circulation... so they didn’t.

The pictures appear a tad 'washed out', however, if I attribute that to the photography, then I would say, details call for an AU55... Cheers, RickO

Like I said, tough crowd! Of nineteen guesses eleven were low. I think it's great as a 55. It has nearly full luster on the major obverse fields.
