You are much to generous and I would prefer this to go to a combat vet or one of our active duty members.
1990-1994 US Army Active Duty
1994-2000 US Army Reserves
What a GREAT HEART! God Bless You
My draft number was 55 so I enlisted in the Air Force in '71. Training at Lackland, Texas, and Biloxy Miss. Spent my tour at Hickam in Honolulu. Got out 5/75. Stayed in Hawaii with a 4 year side posting in Guam '82 - '86.
Edit to add: I like @dadams sentiment. Give mine to combat or active duty member.
@Paradisefound a great gift for a great cause. I'm no vet so do not include me in your count. Just had to note how great you are! We couldn't enjoy our holidays with our family's if it wasn't for the men and women that sacrifice holidays away from their families to protect what we enjoy. Thank you to all of our veterans and to paradise for recognizing them.
Very cool giveaway!
My comment seems to have disappeared. Regardless, With heartfelt thanks, I will donate the equivalent to the DAV . Please advise.

Bless your Heart
Let me know how should I proceed with your coin value for DAV
Very nice of you to do this.
Very cool of some of the "winners" in what they want done as well.
I'm a vet, but not a combat vet (turned away from Desert Storm due to job classification/costs/"needs of the service"), and I would never pretend to be. My thoughts/heart/etc out to those that did serve combat tours.
I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment
Another outstanding example of Paradisefound's kind and warm heartiness !!!
I was lucky in that I did not see combat while in the Air Force. I did serve a year in Korea, and because they are still technically at war (because they only had a cease fire with no official end to the war) I somehow qualify for the VFW. I did almost get deployed to Kosovo in 1999, but never got deployed.
I sure feel for those soldiers over in Afghanistan who are seeing things that no human should ever have to endure. My grandfather served in the Pacific during WWII and saw more than his fair share of combat. I only found out after he passed, but I wish I could have talked to him about it. From what I am told he was very tight lipped about it. I can only imagine the horrors he witnessed.
Hohoho and Merry Christmas. The most ridiculous thing about Xmas in Nam was the light show of flares shot off at midnight on the bunkerline. And a hot meal delivered by deuce and a half. War never changes. Peace Roy

What a generous gift and kind gesture! Thank you. I served 20 years in the USAF ('85-'05) and pulled 4 tours in country. If I made the "top 7", please defer the WWI coin for the next active duty member who posts in response to this thread. Thanks again for your thoughtful & generous give-away.
Best of holidays,

15 posts already. Is that less than 7 ? Navy 1974
Navy '59-63....No combat, but close - right in the center of the Cuban crisis with three Russian subs around my ship....Cheers, RickO
Air National Guard 1963 -1969. My unit out of Schenectady, NY never did get activated because we operated at 90% plus capacity with staff that would volunteer for 89 day stretches flying cargo and fuel to Vietnam and Cambodia. I sat behind a desk on my weekend drills processing their expense accounts.
Thanks to all that did serve that we may be free and thanks to @Paradisefound for such a generous and thoughtful offer.

No combat....

1964-1965 same unit that rotated to Ft Meade MD & subsequently saw combat in Vietnam beginning in 1966
Apologies to the combat veterans. I misread the post. I'm not a combat vet. I was injured in service 1964.
Words cannot express the heartfelt admiration for those who chose to defend our great country.
Their families are to recognized, for they let Uncle Sam take their loved ones away so that America may remain free for another day.
Those who support the veterans should be recognized for their actions as well. They could have chose not to publicly advocate those who went into harms way and be ridiculed by those who thought differently.
Merry Christmas to you and your families, extended and immediate.
Thank you @Paradisefound for your extreme generosity throughout this past year.

A little late to the party but I'm currently at the end of my Initial entry training (5 months in) and will soon be going to Airborne school followed by RASP. I've never seen combat and I hope I never do.
Please accept my apology for my fault changing the term from Veteran to Combat Veteran after your post
so you are still in my friend
Currently enlisted and just passed 14 years of service, no combat time. Changed MOS from combat engineer to mechanic after hearing loss in Germany.
Thanks to all who have served! Many have sacrificed a great deal more than I for this country.
USAF Security Forces ‘91 - ‘99.
Desert Shield/Storm, Somalia, Year in Korea like Justin.
In the nearly 20 years since I got out, I’ve been thanked so much from when it was my turn to do the protecting, that I too defer to any Active Duty member now doing their turn doing the protecting.

Great and generous giveaway. I served between wars from '76-'88..... No gifts for me, but it's hard to believe I stood guard at the Iron Curtain, separating Germany back in "the day". Now we have one (iron curtain) on our southern border
... separating the Americas.
God bless us all, just the same.

Very generous gesture, Paradise!
Thank you to all who serve(d).
I for example am a Veteran that served during war time (Desert Storm) but was not in the theater of operation. I consider a combat veteran to be one who served in a hostile environment where they **directly or indirectly **engaged with the enemy of the United States.
Late to the party as usual haha but thanks to @Paradisefound for your generosity. Happy holidays to all!
30+ years in the Air Force and a veteran of multiple tours in Iraq and Afghanistan. Hooah!

Hi Paradisefound:
In the Army from 1963 to 1973. In Vietnam from 1964 thru 1965 in Expeditionary forces before the big buildup as an Advisor to Vietnamese unit and back again in 1968 thru 1969. Combat stripes for uniform are awarded for every 6 months of combat duty. I have 5 for mine. Permanently disabled. At 72, I would go back in today as a private and burn human waste for the rest of my life if they would let me. The greatest day of my life was April 10th 1963 standing on a parade field in Chicago, raising my right hand and watching the Huge Garrison Flag snapping in the spring breeze and saying
" I Robert T. XXXXXXX do hereby swear to Protect and Defend the United States of America against all enemies foreign and domestic, and to obey the orders of the President of the United States, and those appointed above me, so help me GOD. "
I can tell you from personal experience, We live in the Greatest country on this planet, and as a Country, We Are better than what our current politicians are portraying us to be.
Merry Christmas to all and GOD Bless America

Seeing a lot of Air Force vets. Nice to see. "I was a pilot in the AF. Was given a shovel and told to pile it over there"
No combat time but toughed it out at Hickam for all but school.

Very, very generous of you, @Paradisefound! Thanks so much!
I was in the reserves during the Viet-Nam era, so didn't make much of a sacrifice. My admiration and honor for those who did.
Here's a warning parable for coin collectors...
Wow a lot of vets here. Thanks guys for your service.
We’ve built a lot of key components for a lot of critical military equipment. Most of you have probably seen it assembled. I know my friend who was in 10th mountain division saw a bunch of it.
Merry Christmas!

You probably crossed each other paths in Nam without even know it then
I'm right here PF.

I met a lot of brave young men in Nam. And at the evac hospitals many brave women trying to keep the casualties alive. On my second tour, I also had the pleasure of the company of a European medical team on a hospital shop called the Helgoland in Danang harbor. Them was some heady times. Merry Xmas to all. Peace Roy

PF you are amazing! So generous and always always uplifting!!!! I'm not eligible but want to thank all those that are. Here are some related lyrics to a recent Paul Simon Christmas song'
From early in November to the last week of December
I got money matters weighing me down
Oh the music may be merry, but it's only temporary
I know Santa Claus is coming to town
I got a nephew in Iraq it's his third time back
But it's ending up the way it began
With the luck of a beginner he'll be eating turkey dinner
On some mountain top in Pakistan
Getting ready, oh we're getting ready
For the power and the glory
And the story of
Christmas Day
Hey Paradisefound:
2 things.
1. take me out of the running and likewise if I were considered, please give mine to a current active duty member. My time is past and todays hard chargers deserve all we can give them to carry the torch of Freedom.
2. Namvet69 and I have done more than crossed paths, we have become brothers with a common bond. There is no greater accolade than to say to a Viet-Nam vet " Welcome Home ".
