The strike on the top half of the obverse of that 19-D is outstanding. Definition on Liberty's head and separated branch hand for that issue is very uncommon. Nice looking coin in general. Great stuff.

One way that I'm able to enjoy the hunt and the kill without triggering a Box of Twenty reshuffle is by buying interesting bullion. If a substantial portion of the coin's value is precious metals, I can rationalize that it's more bullion than coin.
So this year, without any additions to the Box of Twenty, my favorite numismatic purchase would probably be this solid gold "Tola" from India. With few government-issued gold coins in the 1940s and 1950s, these privately minted pieces filled the vacuum--and became a favorite for smugglers and black marketeers.
We are like children who look at print and see a serpent in the last letter but one, and a sword in the last.

1842 $2.50's are tough to find. I upgraded my F12 CAC example with this long admired XF45 CAC thanks to a fellow forum member.

Every year my favorite always seems to be one of my recent pickups I guess I suffer from recency bias
I did search a lot of the year for a nice Coronet 1C though so this may have won regardless when I landed it.

Well the photos of this coin are not that great. But it is the only CAM ETF coin to date. I am trying to get all of the proof varieties in this registry set in CAM or DCAM. So to add this coin to my set is a great thing.

Here is the coin. Harold II was the King of England for only nine months. And, his pennies are quite scarce.

2018 was my best coin year by far. Started off slow and ended slow. But the middle had a lot of bangs. Got my first draped bust dollar. Near cameo WLH proof. PL Central American 8R. Bought my first ancient then bought my first 5 more. Some monster morgan toners and several medieval and South American crowns. But this was the clear winner for me.

I was wondering why you picked 1863 for your handle? I did notice it's the same date as on your Little Monitor token.

@Zoins 1863 is the date that appears on many Civil War tokens. Other dates appear on Civil War tokens but the majority of dated ones have 1863. Some Civil War tokens do not have a date. The Cairo, Illinois Civil War token I posted above is an example of one that has no date.

I purchased this PCGS MS65 1926-D CAC Peace Dollar from Larry Shaprio as an upgrade to complete my set as all CAC Coins.
I had a PCGS MS65 not CAC in my set and have been looking for over 3 years for a CAC coin that I liked at a price that I could live with.Thanks, Larry

I bought two coins this year; of the two this one is far the more important. I looked so long for a Type 2 gold dollar with a look I liked at a price I could feel was fair.

I don't buy many coins for my Standing Liberty Quarter Registry Sets. They have to be exactly what I like. These two coins were both original AU58's in PCGS holders.
