Yes, it's time for that annoying end of the year ritual, Top "so-and-so" of 2018.
Well, this is my top coin purchase of 2018. Since there were only two, this was any easy decision:
How about you?

Not a very valuable coin but I like the look.
I bought very few coins this year, and this one is one reason why:
Keeper of the VAM Catalog • Professional Coin Imaging • Prime Number Set • World Coins in Early America • British Trade Dollars
Wow, that is a beauty!
Purchased raw in April 2018 in Lincoln City, Oregon, while on vacation for $70.
I like to plan on getting something at the very end of the year.
Something that's a little stretch but really want and have been subconsciously waiting for this time of year.
It doesn't always work out but hopefully I can contribute in the coming days.

I made a couple of nice purchases during 2018...but this one is probably my favorite...
We really need a "love" button...
first tried to buy it from another forum member about 6-7 years ago but it never happened, then it came up for auction via Heritage.
Although I like gold ..... this silver piece stands out for me.
This probably is my favorite purchase this year since she was so elusive for a long time (my collecting time of 16 months)
Beautiful HK-866a so-called dollar @keets! Glad you were able to pick it up
Nice to see you back @ryk I hope you stay awhile

Bought one coin this year, a Fugio.
Had long wanted an example, but took a while to find one both pleasing and affordable
Thank you to the seller for the coin and lending your very good images
Good to see you posting again RYK!

I actually repurchased this coin that I sold last year. In any event its my favorite of the year.
RYK Approved????
Good to see you back. I sold most of my dirty old gold to focus on early type this year. Here is my favorite one from the year

I don't buy but 0-2 coins a year. I sold several coins this year. However, I acquired this recently - a modern piece!
Really beautiful acquisitions here!!
My favorite purchase for 2018 is this Saint.
Just like this one.

My favorite this year is this 1875 S/CC, ex-Crypto set, a very lustrous coin with strong remnant mintmark.
Tough call.. probably between these two, the buff cuz its awesome and I stole it, and the other cuz well its got a 17 handle.

No picture ,but I bought a 1795 Flowing Hair Dollar in PCGS VF 30.
From boosibri. I believe he originally ripped this one off of ebay, crossed it, and shazam.
It's a tie, here is the first, a downgrade to my Lincoln clip date set. I will be selling off the higher grade (and certified) example early next year, while this coin resides proudly in the album with the rest of the set.
The second one is the zinc 1982-D clip I posted about here last week, it is the only coin that I crossed off my want list for the date set this year. With this addition, I am but two coins away (1982 small date zinc and 2006) from completing a 100 year set:

I have two, and really can't decide which I like better.
1 - The unique hub trial for the American Congress Fugio dies - this is the earliest Fugio anything, and as such, is the first pattern for the first official circulating coin for the United States. It's almost as weird as I am:
2 - The 1803/2 $5 struck from misaligned dies that I was finally able to purchase from one of my close friends here on the forum. Also weird like me:

Sorry, I can't narrow it to just one. Here are a few of my favorites.
First, this very tough and completely original 1846 Rulau R-Y4 "Do Your Duty" token. I believe it is the highest graded by either top TPG. I have a couple of other examples, but this one is my nicest.
1837 HT-31, R3+, "Executive Experiment" Hard Times Token. Sooooo tough to find in high collectible grade, problem-free, and with any original red -- this one has it all! And best of all, I cherry-picked it raw off of eBay.
And finally, I got a great deal on these wonderfully thick, heavy, and beautiful Betts medals (594 and 595) the day after they walked into a local B&M. One of these days I'll send them in for slabbing.

A Harold II English penny was my favorite purchase because it completed my “All Kings of England” set.
It’s close in my collection, but this one gets the nod. Nice acquisitions, one and all!
A no motto.
Please check the first [reverse] A in AMERICA.
There is a line along the left side of the A, could be? An unlisted DDR?

This one puts an end to a decade-long search. I couldn’t get my checkbook out fast enough!

I bought very few coins in 2018, certainly nothing like the great coins posted before me. I did pick up this buffalo nickel which is on it's way to me now. Only have the ebay pics so hopefully it looks good in hand.

Thanks! That means a lot coming from you.
I bought it primarily for the strike but, the more I looked, I saw that it had some nice skin, too.

Like a few others above I got stuck on two. They were my last two purchases for the year (I'm pretty certain). I've been waiting for nice examples for a long while then suddenly they both became available at almost the same time. I had no choice but to snatch them up. There's no way I could pick one over the other as the favorite because I feel very fortunate and appreciative that I was able to obtain both of these rare pieces of history.
