Feel free to give these a shot - which ones do you think will CAC? I decided to send in a few to see if they met "the bean" standard. To make it a bit more interesting, the first person who comes closest to, or with all the correct CAC'd coins will receive a VF/XF 1934D $10 silver certificate note.

Let me get this right. I sent a coin in to PCGS and it comes back 1883 CC MS 65. Now I send it to a dealer who charges me to send to someone who also charges me and who puts a sticker on it that means PCGS knew what they were doing. What if it doesn't rate a sticker; I wasted the money on a TPG? And I see they now have a W sticker to tell it has no color to the coin? Sorry if I am a bit skeptical but....

Starting a CAC-bashing thread was not my intent. If that’s your goal, go start your own thread. If you haven’t figured out the reason CAC was created in the first place, take some time at a large coin show, compare same-graded & holdered coins. You’ll find that many times, two same-graded & same-holdered coins do not possess the same amount of eye-appeal and originality. “Market acceptable” grading unfortunately plays into the equation a great deal. So does minor problems that the TPGs might not consider a grade-stopper (I.e., net-grading). If you have the eye to catch all those things, well good on ya. I think I’m pretty well versed in that area myself, HOWEVER, when it comes time to sell... potential buyers may not enjoy the same level of experience and expertise. CAC provides an added level of assurance, while not infallible, but very consistent in what coins make the bean cut or not, and auction records have consistently shown that.

they all look cacable to me, but I'll guess that the 1844-C HE PCGS VF-35 won't bean on the first try because of the chatter
to everyone who thinks that 1808 won't cac, it looks like it would grade 55 if dipped and stripped, so I think it will pass

Yes to all as they all look hand picked high end for the grade examples, but really hard to tell without seeing the surfaces in hand.

I'll say there's been a wide sampling of possible outcomes - there may be one who nailed it already. I have my thoughts of which have a very good chance, and which are on the fence, but I'll wait to share those thoughts when results are confirmed.

1808 HE PCGS AU-53 - Yes - I assume that it has sufficient luster in hand. CAC treats the AU50/AU53 grade as one so as long as it has AU50 luster, you should be golden.
1840-C HE PCGS XF-45 - No
1844-C HE PCGS VF-35 - No
1846-C HE PCGS AU-58 - Yes
1847-C HE PCGS AU-53 - Yes
1848-C HE PCGS XF-45 - Yes
1854-C HE NGC AU-53 - Yes - This one is a tough one due to the weak strike that is often seen on the issue. I attribute the weakness towards the lower eagle/talon and the hair curls largely to the strike and not necessarily wear. Nevertheless, I am still at AU50; however, since CAC treats AU50/53 the same, I'll go out on a limb and guess that it beans.2 -
Ok folks - CAC's final tally is in. While there have been a couple of very close guesses, nobody has nailed it completely. I'll keep this one open one more day to give someone the chance to match CAC's results. One way or another, someone is getting the $10 silver cert.

NOI agree 100%. When dealing with this many coins (and from photos only) its pretty difficult to predict results. But I do believe that’s a great group of coins the owner should be happy with.

Results are in! While a few - four I believe - came within just one of getting them all right, nobody guessed all seven correctly. That said, the winning entry goes to the first participant who got all but one - @valente151 - who missed only the '54-C. "Honorable Mention" goes out to @jwitten (wish he were still here), @mannie gray & @cameonut2011, all who missed only one each also, however valente151 posted his guesses before them.
1808 HE PCGS AU-53 CAC Green
I thought this one had a very good chance at CAC approval.
1840-C HE PCGS XF-45 No CACThis one was borderline. I suspect the obverse planchet roughness held it up somewhat. Purchased in 1998-99 in a PCGS XF-40 holder. Been in its current holder since 2002-2003. The date is typically found in two states, with obverse peripheral roughness and a strong central strike, or with no roughness and a weaker central strike.
1844-C HE PCGS VF-35 No CACPurchased back in the mid-90's and even though it's in an OGH, I agree with its current grade. I figure the reverse hits may have also held this one back.
1846-C HE PCGS AU-58 CAC GreenA beauty of a coin and a really, really tough date in any grade.
1847-C HE PCGS AU-53 CAC GreenA great, crusty Charlotte half eagle.
1848-C HE PCGS XF-45 CAC GreenSee above - just more wear.
1854-C HE NGC AU-53 No CACAnother nice, crusty XF-48 half eagle that I think NGC over-graded with the generous AU-53 grade. The reverse die cracked during production, causing a very weak strike on both reverse & obverse. It's quite pronounced running through the eagles left (facing) wing. I suspect that if it was in an XF-45 holder, CAC would've been fine beaning it.

I got 6/7...not too shabby.
I was on the fence on the 1808. I liked it but I thought it was dull and that CAC wouldn't like it..Maybe in hand I would have had a different idea.
The coins were all super nice though and damn impressive.4 -
