Miss Liberty is a bit too manly for me to consider the coin beautiful.

    Smitten with DBLCs.

Beautiful in their own way, certainly....I never liked large cents, as most of the ones seen at small shows and B&Ms were decrepit, until I had to search out a high grade middle date cent for my 7070 many years ago. Wound up buying an 1819 N-6 from Larry Briggs in small ANACS MS60 holder, and fell in love with it, and wound up putting together the middle date set. Most of the dates and varieties are relatively affordable and available in XF-MS, more challenging and interesting than the late dates, less daunting and much more affordable than the early dates.

In retrospect, I wish I had started with the early dates though, as prices for those have skyrocketed over the past 25+ years.

It is curious that she has a double chin. Obviously she ate well. Peace Roy

I like the old cents... Though I have never assembled a set. I do have a few (including an 'altered' one ;) )....They were once a significant coin with purchasing power...heck, even Lincoln cents could buy a penny candy when I was a kid. Cheers, RickO

I like them, but I'm really fond of the braided hair type.

They are special in their own right and on the personal note....the lady looks well nourished during the 'Deep Depression' period ;)

I really like the peripheral die crack on that one.

  • SmudgeSmudge Posts: 9,823 ✭✭✭✭✭

@BillJones is your coin made from the same die as the op? Die cracks look the same.

Bill Jones has the N-13 variety. That and the 1818 are the easiest coins of the series to find in Unc. Most are from the Randall Hoard and are splotchy in color.
Unc. attractive RB and RD Coronet Head cents carry a strong premium. Attractive RDs are scarce.

I love large cents. My Dansco is complete save one. You can probably guess.

The really pricey ones I chose to leave in slabs. Not what I prefer but the sensible thing to do.

They're one of my favorites! Only one I have so far. Well I do have a very worn braided but I haven't photographed it.

Since I never cracked the old ANACS holder, I needed a replacement for the hole in my 7070 album:

Yes, same die variety, as is my mundane example:

I disagree; your coin is not mundane.

This one is rather pretty I think, and it’s the N-1 overdate, a much tougher variety in MS.
This had been in the personal collection of an EAC dealer/collector friend, and I acquired after he submitted it:

    That's a beauty.

Certainly they can be beautiful. I like the ones with lustre and die cracks!
