Obverse luster is weak, would this coin straight grade at PCGS?

Another concern but maybe not since I don't do halves is the gash at the "E" in UNITED.

I agree. Looks like a staple did enough damage there not to get a straight grade. Other than that it would have. Looks like there is still some luster in the devises

Long term dealer looked at it today and called that a planchet defect, he knows Bust 50c well

Cleaned and damaged. It does not look like a planchet defect to me.

It does not look like a planchet defect to me...however, it looks benign enough to straight grade....Perhaps a 50 and might get 'cleaned'...Cheers, RickO

If it straight grades I'd guess XF45.

They will probably grade it XF 45 without looking too closely, that appears to be PCGS policy on these lately.

I see this as mid-AU details, at worst. If luster is weak it may hold it back.

I don't like the gash. I don't think it's a strike-through or planchet defect. But the TPG's may feel otherwise.

If it comes back straight graded, it’ll register a 45 on the rictor scale....

AU50 details, scratched. Shouldn't straight grade.

    EF-43ish.

I like to collect coins. The history intigues me. I wonder, as I hold an 1858 penny, who held it and what they did with it.
