Someting is wong
I was checking out a slew of listings by this low feedback seller. This coin looked a little "off" to me with the surfaces and the story line that the collection:
"According to American auction house "Numismatist" the coin is in Uncirculated Condition
"Estate is from the safe of my father-in-law Vladamire Mikhailov, a Russian businessman and collector. Vlad collected some of the best coins available during his travels from Moscow to the United States. Coins were purchased at Auctions, Coin Shows, and used as collateral for loans. The collection has been passed down to my wife to help start our new life in the United States.
"Coin are sold exactly as found in the safe per the wishes of my father-in-law. Coins have been showed to a large U.S. Auction house and coin shop for authentication and evaluation. Due to very unpleasant customer experience, the rest of the coins will be sold on ebay."

Unpleasant customer experience. Maybe they were told they were fakes. Edit to add stars look wrong, but I am no expert in these. Other opinions please.
He is also selling PCGS graded coins so you have to wonder why he didn't have that coin graded.
Or maybe he did and it bodybagged.
MY COINS FOR SALE AT https://www.pcgs.com/setregistry/collectors-showcase/other/bajjerfans-coins-sale/3876
He has some nice coins, no question providing everything is on the up and up. Hard to figure the toning on his raw coins, mixed in with rare certified ones.
Some nice coins, some not so nice. Odd grouping.
I saw his listings some days ago. He has low feedback, all as a buyer.
So I wonder if he actually has the coins he has listed, or if the photos came from somewhere else....
I didn't bid.
I bid on a few of the items, like the 1869 PCGS Proof 66 Seated 50c. I was in at $4200, it went for a few hundred more. TV images made it look like one of the best in Coinfacts, the images provided were terribly substandard. https://www.ebay.com/itm/1869-Seated-Liberty-Silver-Half-Dollar-PCGS-PR66-Coin-Very-colorful-and-collec-/192638477206?nordt=true&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.m43663.l10137
Hard to tell potential grade like on this better date $20: https://www.ebay.com/itm/1898-Double-Eagle-20-Expert-Says-Highest-Known-Grade-GEM-Uncirculated-Look-no-/192638617733?nordt=true&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.m43663.l10137
From the results on a lot of the raw coins shill activity was apparent, I can't come up with a better explanation with bidding patterns.
When I see 'stories' associated with a sale, I just move along.....Sure, likely some are valid, but most are hype and often associated with bad product. Cheers, RickO
Well, as I read the description below the coin is an 1850 "double head" and with that in mind he knows what he's talking about yuck yuck yuck.
I thought it might be interesting to compare the ebay photo with a known
genuine piece from a Heritage auction. The 13th star does not seem to be
pointing at the same dentil area and the dentils themselves do not seem
quite right. Also, the figure 5 in the date seems different. On the other hand
figure punches do vary and the ebay piece might be from a different hub,
assuming that one was made. The top photo is the ebay specimen.
Right above the TY in twenty do I see letters?
at least he was smart enough to get a store with 425 listings going on
My first thought was Vladamir must of been an aide to the Nigerian Prince. (Google Vladamir Mikhailov - it's like the John Smith of Russia) or ... Maybe he really is just a newbie and doesn't know it's bad form to list your wife's name in the eBay description.
Me, I'm sitting in the bleachers for this one ...
If we were all the same, the world would be an incredibly boring place.

I would run not walk away from this one. Oklahoma? read the copy carefully.
Is the OP's title suggesting that the coin is a Chinese counterfeit?

No, the surfaces/seller looked a little off to me; you wonder why it isn't certified. I think they have limits on buy it nows in terms of maximum price you can list it at; but auctions are different.
Another rare coin, probably the rarest he's running:

I wonder if this guy is the same as gold_standard_guy on ebay? Check out his completed sales.
I think I see some pinkish color on the cheek and obverse fields, does that maybe mean putty?
Successful BST deals with mustangt and jesbroken. Now EVERYTHING is for sale.
Looks the same to me. Color is different, but numerals and stat/denticle line up. Maybe different DIES, but same hub.
Buyer feedback of 12, with a non-existent Seller feedback. Then all of a sudden 8 pages of coins for sale, some of which are quite rare (1916 SLQ, 1824 $5 Gold in AU+). Something ain't right... know what I'm saying?
Looked at 3 of their feedback as a buyer and they were from sellers selling positive feedback. One, rqr_65 ( Feedback Score Of 0 ) , has only ever listed positive feedback for sale so that proves what they bought. Inspires real confidence, like stopping at 12 was going to erase all concerns. At least they have been around since the 18th of August, so no worries there.
Maybe they just needed 10 or more in order to meet some Ebay listing requirement.

Buyers still have full recourse right? Questionable item arrives, gets returned money restored through paypal. Seller doesn't get access to funds until after positive feedback is left for newer sellers.
He sold 199 items yesterday. My quick-math estimate totaled over $60,000. Good way to start a new life in the USA.
Do not care for the risk-reward proposition here - glad I'm in the bleachers.
If we were all the same, the world would be an incredibly boring place.

I have no doubt this is a mix bag of genuine and high quality recent Chinese counterfeits. This seems to be the new trend, all the fakes people scooped up thinking they were great deals are now entering the secondary market and sellers with a thin moral line are finding creative ways of unloading them. I sent a message to an ebay seller just last night who was mixing up many common types of foreign coin fakes from the same generation with genuine coins.
Highly enthusiastic about world coins, contemporary circulating counterfeits and unusual stuff
He may have had a nervous breakdown reading all the negative posts.:)
No real seller feedback; could be there was just a mix of legitimate and illegitimate items, probably ebay decided there was too much risk for letting this questionable account to continue with high dollar listings.
It could have been all the shilling by their buddies; it could have been complaints; if the supposed sales generate real feedback then the story could be different. I asked some questions on the Grant coin and was just given unprofessional fluff.
Looks like someone wasn't happy: "Cancelled my purchase blaming me and PayPal closed their account." Then there were two positives before that, hard to tell if they are legit: https://feedback.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewFeedback2&userid=great-midwest-estates&ftab=AllFeedback&myworld=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2050430.m2531.l4585
I think something is "wong" with the title of this thread.
Every time I see it I get a craving for Chinese food....
great-midwest-estates nee gold_standard_guy is now thedockter
Here was his listing, under great-midwest-estates, for an 1889-cc $20 gold from his "father-in-law Vladamire Mikhailov, a Russian businessman"
https://ebay.com/itm/1889-CC-Coronet-Head-20-Double-Eagle-Gold-GEM-UNCIRCULATED-Details-Very-Rare-/192639633835?nordt=true&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.m43663.l44720
Here was his listing , under thedockter, for the same 1889-cc $20 gold he found "During the demolition of a 200+ year old pottery store an enormous safe was found"

That 1824 $5 Gold was from the 2017 Denver ANA Auction NGC UNC details-cleaned:

It has since been relisted under his new account, thedockter, and sold for $22,100:

than he claims he found it months ago in the "Pottery Store" cracked it out and sold it on eBay for $8,780:

"thedockter" is now racking-up the negatives:
https://feedback.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewFeedback2&userid=thedockter&ftab=AllFeedback
He has now moved on to selling under another of his eBay accounts, "toomanycoins" where his new story is the coins came from his Polish Grandfather, that one is also racking-up the negatives:

What a scammer!! I know that people will crack details coins and attempt to sell them raw to unsuspecting bidders, but to apparantly create a business model around it?!!
Am I missing something or shouldn't this always end badly because of various factors - a) getting "caught" and hit to reputation b) potential for loss on auctions (as shown above in various HA purchases and eBay sales) and c) the buyer protections, especially with new sellers.
Maybe the seller enjoys throwing money away as much as the bidders on some of the worst auction examples.
OT - When I saw the title of the thread, I immediately thought of this (apologies for any offense, I do not claim it is funny, just made me think of it) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AmclgO6w0C0
The important thing to me about this thread is the fact that many members are calling genuine coins counterfeits for the silliest reasons. I know, it's the images.
Agree, a few look real albeit cleaned.

Were those real bids on the listed lots? Shaking my head.
Hard to know; when you see an "eternal return" of recycled lots, it is dubious that the seller actually "sold" the item I would infer in a wild leap of logic.
This seller, kremlin_collector, just sold an 1849-c $5 Gold Liberty to my friend, on eBay, for $1,225.55:
https://ebay.com/itm/-/123526929327/?nordt=true&orig_cvip=true
He paid for the coin and the seller claimed he "lost the coin".......This crook seller just relisted this exact same coin under his alt account, thedockter:
https://ebay.com/itm/-/292910705717/?nordt=true&orig_cvip=true
I advised my friend to bid $20,000 on the coin, since he legally owns it, and when he wins, he's already paid for it previously.
This is a form of shilling. The seller just cancels the sale if he doesn't get enough $$$ and than relists under his alt account and he doesn't have to pay FVF's.
I don't know how a seller like that continues to operate with blatant fraud.
How hilarious is this.........kremlin_collector aka thedockter sold this same 1849-c $5 to my friend e***i (3136). He sent an invoice for $3,349.99 my friend replied that he had already paid him $1,225.55 for this coin........should be interesting to see the outcome on this.
Same seller? Sold an 1836 Gobrecht twice but can't find feedback on either...
Interesting- the marks don't all appear to match, especially on the chin.
That 1849 is the same coin. Super obvious it is the same.
Seriously? It's clearly the same coin.
