With gloved hands,I transferred some proof sets into Capitol holders.....I like the look of them

    They presented the coins well. It is too bad that the age of slabs has greatly diminished their appeal.

    I used to love Capital Plastics and put all of my best coins in them until the early 80's. My only complaint with them was that that they didn't use a thinner center sheet for thinner coins. So, for example, a set of three cent silvers or gold dollars in a Capital holder would look ridiculous. Has that changed any in the past 35 years?

    Really liked the look of the holders but in a lot of cases the holders cost more than the coins.

    Capital also stands by its products. About 10 years ago, I discovered that some plastic screws had cracked from stress over the years. I wrote to the company and a free bag of 50 screws magically appeared in my mailbox about a week later.

    First of all, I like the holder - have never seen a Nebraska outline.

    It is not true that there is a scratch on the edge to assist in reassembly - at least not in all cases. In my experience, the newer holders have them, the older holders don't. In fact, the holder I posted above has no witness marks at all. Nor does my blue proof set holder from 1961 - no marks.

    It is a great idea to mark the edge - especially on rectangular holders. One tip is to put the mark on an angle - not straight up and down. This makes it impossible to put it together incorrectly if you line up the marks.

    Another aside - I don't think it is possible to put that Nebraska holder together incorrectly unless you bury the wording inside the holder.

    I like Capitol holders....as demonstrated above, they are great vehicles for coin displays - and preferable to slabs (IMO)....Which, presents an idea....Full display slabs, with grades, from PCGS...For example - a set of CC Morgans in date order, with grades and varieties. Nah, that will not work, because most here also sell coins... and the market is much larger for individual coins than for sets. Oh well, my flash of brilliance quickly changed to a sparkly sputter.... :D Cheers, RickO

    Believe it or don't, but back in the 70's I was dithering around TRYING to figure out how to make some tamper proof screws or ...something... to seal Capital holders.

    Meanwhile, David Hall was going about it the RIGHT way and researching having holders MADE.

    I was in Stockton and getting things "done" there is a real exercise in futility.
    I always envied people who lived in So. California where some manufacturing is actually done.

    (Of course had I been diligent enough, I would have got my butt TO SoCal and done my stuff there.) :'(

    If my wife were alive, she could confirm this ...story.
    I just ..knew... getting coins SEALED IN PLASTIC would be good.

    I had some coins ANACS'ed in the photo things but flips aren't enough.

    Oh well....

    Before there were slabs, I used 3 X 3 inch custom made Capital Plastics holders. The hole was custom drilled, and used the fitting tool to adjust the opening to the exact size. They costed $10 each plus a lettering charge.

    Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

    Very Nice sets here and coins. I do like the holders too.
    Have a few with ANACS photo Certs in them and they do look nice.
