The US market swoon of '08 was nothing, I mean nothing when you compare it to the Canadian coin market swoon of the same year.

Canadian coins got killed and are still extremely depressed.

By the way....fantastic type collection, truly magnificant.

Yes, give it a decade or so, you can get attractive rim toning on silver coins, but they have a tendency to turn clad coins a dull lusterless gray.

Great Job! Your set has a lot of eye appeal. I personally am down to the with motto half, and the no motto dollar, otherwise done with much style like yours.

How many of yours were crackouts? Percentage? I'd say I cracked out about 50% for my set. Maybe more.

Which was your most expensive coin? For me, hands down, the first two large cents. Almost half the value of the set is in those two coins.

Admittedly, I have not focused much on this set as it draws to a close. It's like for some reason I don't want to finish it.

Renomedphys, I've been following your occasional posts about your set, looking forward to seeing the pictures..

I count 32 slab crackouts of the 86 coins in the album, or about 37%. The most expensive coin in the album was the 1837 half dollar, then the seated dollars.
(it sounds like your early large cents are significantly nicer than mine!)

it's funny how the pics taken last night for this and another thread looked exactly like the coin at the time under what I thought were good lights, and much different in the morning under filtered sunlight, these are more accurate

I just completed my 7070 type set - circulated grades but still enjoy looking at all the different coins. I'm glad I don't have the gold supplemental page to fill :-)

Nothing new for the album since the 1839 dime, but did add these coins to the complete-type-set-in-progress, that are beyond the scope of the 7070, since the last bump

Edit: more picture fun with wierd lighting... these 3 coins are actually just about the same color in hand

Great set and awesome to see the evolution of some of the coins over 10 years! Thanks for sharing.

I'm working on a slabbed Dansco 7070 set mostly due to the cost of some of the coins and want the security that comes with a slab. Just wondering if you've had any crackers remorse?

Hey, thanks guys, wow, what an old thread!

To answer a couple of questions, not really any cracker's remorse on these, as I had, and have, no intention to sell any of these in the foreseeable future. Coins that get displaced by the (very infrequent, now) upgrade simply get moved to the "B" 7070 album, or to the Whitman type set albums. I do enjoy these album sets very much compared to a box of slabs, and have tried to buy only coins that are solid for the slab grade, or, in a couple of cases, had been dipped, and could actually benefit from a decade or two in an album.... which leads to question #2..

Yes, I've seen some additional toning on some of the coins over the years, it's a very mellow golden deepening, with some hints of richer colors on a few pieces. I haven't actually looked at this album in several months, and then only in the little SDB room at the bank, so it might be interesting to get this out again soon and take some new pictures.

The coins that are "beyond the scope" of the album, I've usually left in their slabs for the type set, here's one of the most recent, though it's been a couple of years now I think, new additions such as this don't happen very often:

I've put together two 7070's, only one with the gold however. The one with the gold would be the last thing in my collection I would sell. By and large, your set is higher grade than mine, but I sure enjoyed putting mine together and assume you feel the same. Congratulations, wonderful set!

When you upgrade, consider making sure you have all the mints represented. A nice CC Morgan would be easy to find and they come pretty as can be. A D and C gold would be cool as well. Just thinking.

Back in the 1960s I started with the Library of Coins type albums. There were two albums to the set. I think the first went from the half cents to dimes, and the second from quarters to half Dollars. There were no spaces for gold or ant commemative coins.

Library of Coins albums were sturdier than the Whitman albums. Spme said they had less moisture issues, but the holes were sometimes too large. I didn't care for that, and that was what got me started on storing coins in envelopes. I had a bunch of World War II era OPA tokens, I used to put those in the spots to mark what I had. I guess that is when I got out of the habit of using albums.

I never completed those album holes, but they made me aware of what the complete set was. Many years later I filled all of those album holes in the virtual sense.

No space on the gold page for my new $3

Fresh from the BST, this pcgs graded coin upgrades an 1882 $3 in an old Anacs "details/net grade" slab, and also gets me to 5/6 for an 1855 gold type set.
