Terrific set! Very, very nice. I have a "poor side of the tracks" of this set myself, but you have higher grades in most of the holes, especially the copper ones, but I love my set too. I debated with myself about going with the Dansco album as my 28 year old Whitman started to fall apart. I knew it was gong to involve some new acquisitions, but I didn't like the idea of getting two seated dollars and having to leave out my 1799 Drapped Bust dollar "the Queen of my whole collection". I finally just made that hole larger, blackened out the description and printed "Drapped Bust" with a gold pen. Only 3 Commen's interested me enough to buy them (don't get me wrong, I like them, as I do all coins, you just have to draw the line somewhere or go broke!) so I choose the 1st one (Columbian), the Iowa (since that's my birth state) and the Oregon since I like it the best of all the commen's. I choose the reverse of the Walking Liberty for the last hole as I love that coin! I'm sure to return to this thread many times and admire your coins again and again. Thanks! I really love this forum!!

Very Nice Set... The only part of the set that I might have some knowledge of are the Jeffersons... just wondering why you used those dates?

do you always keep the slides out or only for pictures?
only for changing coins and for pictures. be really careful when moving slides
do you wear gloves or anything when putting the coins in their slots?
no gloves, just a clean piece of paper (a small post-it works well) between the coin and my pressing fingers
how do you get the coins in so well? no angles
Just line 'em up and push 'em in. You can see some little "shims" made of a little strip of safe-flip to prevent some of the coin from rotating. Some of the holes are a little big, typically the early large cents
Wowwy! I will add my enthusiasm for your fine collection. Very inspiring and impressive to see in one album collection.
Thanks for revealing that many have been upgraded a few times. My own first attempt (7070 album is on it's way now) will no doubt have many lower grade examples. Someday I hope I can acheive what you and other type album collectors have.

This deserves a TTT for anyone who hasn't seen it in a while.
Also though, in case Baley reads it again, I have a question for you... have you thought about pulling everything out of the Dansco someday and sticking them in 2x2's in an album, so that you can put some of those extras in and have them all together? I do like Dansco albums, it does make for a very nice presentation, it's just too bad you can't design your own album with all the holes you want.
Nice set Baley, congratulations and thank you for posting really nice pics of it too. Your set is an inspiration to myself and I'm sure many many others.
Someone once told me that Dansco has blank pages of different denomination sizes. That may be something you could look into, then if you could find someone who could do some lettering of the same style as Dansco uses...........
I have a similar Dansco, but most of my older coins(19th century) are no where near as nice as yours.........most of the moderns I have in proof. Someday, my goal will be to make as many of them as possible in proof. Now that I have my personal and money problems somewhat behind me, I think it's time to delve back into collecting the old fashioned way..........folders. I sent the very last slab I owned to MrDQ.
How have you acquired your coins for your Dansco, slab crackouts or bying them raw from people you trust?
I've thought of getting extra gold and modern pages (maybe emptying and either removing the text or turning upside down the current moderns page) to put in the "rest" of the coins for a more complete album type set, but opt to just leave the 7070 as it is and collect the extras outside it, slabbed or raw.
Sweet Merc! Mine has some nice tone, but is fairly worn down. Right now, I am working on the "odd-ball" coins. Trying to upgrade my 2, 3, and 20 centers.
oh, was just kidding, the comment was a reference to the market swoon of late '08, and was also getting frustrated at how hard it is to acquire the early types and the different compromises I have to live with, in order to make them somewhat affordable
This is simply an incredible set. I had to restart mine after an "acquaintance" made 95% of my collection disappear a few years ago. It was about 80% complete too.

You seemed quite happy with your coins when you assembling your set. How is it that they suddenly became "junk"?

flowing hair half dime worn to the nub
small eagle half dime, pierced
Liberty: Parent of Science & Industry
and, recently, this 1803 half dime filled a tough hole, for now
new additions getting few and far between, even at this grade level, this coin took a couple years to find the right one for me.
Liberty: Parent of Science & Industry
It's getting a lot tougher to add new types to the "outside the album type set", now only every year or two.. Here, finally, is a small eagle dime
Liberty: Parent of Science & Industry
Congratulations. A wonderful accomplishment, so far.
