Seems to be a lot of chatter on the obverse. Weakly struck 50 cents. Got to ask yourself, why hasn’t someone crossed this coin yet? I would have to see in hand before I took the gamble.
I worked for PCI from 1990 - 1994. and again around 1997 - 98 when I left for NGC. PCI was sold and by the time this company used GOLD labels the grading generally sucked!
IMO, based on the image, the coin is not original and has a little rub - easily seen on the wing.
I lean towards AU58, but given the leniency with cabinet friction a low MS grade isn't out of the question. I agree with Lance that I'd crack it and submit it to our host.
You'd have to make a conservative offer on it, if you don't own it now. It has a lot more eye appeal than most I've seen. As Insider said, PCI got loose under Mr. Beardsley from what I heard.

what is by the last A in AMERICA? is it toning or lamination error?
Looks like toning to me. The “FIFTY CENTS” is weak, and that is not unusual for this type.
Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?
Gold box PCI was pretty much market driven mid 2000s. So in 10 years, has gradeflation changed that much? If you paid midAU money you likely won't be disappointed.

There was a Bust 50c graded MS63 PCI at a shop in Lebanon NH for at least a couple years. Darkly toned, priced around GS, I was tempted but it would have been really dumb to buy a coin like that where Greysheet is reflective of PCGS/cac coins usually these days.

I like her.....that's a nasty scratch in the plastic.
Of course, of course. The holder is slightly cracked on the obverse.
You asking about the grade? The toning? Authenticity?
Could be low MS...could be 58. Hard to say. The toning looks genuine. The coin is authentic.
The cracked slab wouldn't bother me as I'd crack it and get it in PCGS plastic.
Lance.

58, looks like a bit of wear in the hair and on the wing. It may not cross, that may be why it is in that holder. I still like it.

I can't tell anything from those pictures but I can tell you a lot from the gold PCI holder. There is zero chance that coin is ms62!
I would call it AU58....However, those pictures do have a lot of light reflection and the wear could be worse in hand... Cheers, RickO

I'd buy it, regardless of slab. Nice coin!
What Lance said.
Could be as low as 55. Hard to tell from pics. Possibly cleaned/retoned, though may be market acceptable.
It’s time and crack it and send to pcgs

This is a Reeded Edge Half. These coins were struck by a steam press. An Unc. should be all there for the grade.
"Seu cabra da peste,
"Sou Mangueira......."
Please let us know what PCGS calls it if you pull the trigger and decide to submit it.
