The Lincoln cent has been in circulation, with several design types, since 1909. Do you collect these coins?

Yes, I’m a casual collector; I collect them, but not as my primary hobby niche.

I have the circulated 1909 to 1959 + set I started as a child, but I don't keep it up in a formal. I collect one Proof set per year, and I did collect a 2009 Proof cent and dollar set, but I don't keep up with the series.

Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

I like getting them from circulation and also collect the uncirculated mint sets and basic proofs.

Yes. Collectors are slowly coming to realize that pleasant and originally toned Lincolns are an overlooked and exciting area to explore. The last untapped vestige for toners.

No; I own some, but consider them more of an accumulation than a carefully assembled collection.

I have some in old proof sets, and throw pre zincs in a jar. Have some in Whitman folders from when I was a kid. That's about it.

Still have the 09-S VDB hole in the Dansco. The only one missing. I will get again some day (I have had a couple in the past)

I have not bought any for quite a while but a large percentage of my collection value is in Lincoln Cents. I have the Dansco in AU/MS/PR. I also have an XF Wheat set. I wouldn't say I am an active collector but I still look. I need that darn mint error to finish out my book otherwise it would be a complete set. I still disagree I should need a 22-no-D for a complete date/mm set.

I started a diversion a month ago . . . . a test, challenge, or perhaps eye-opener to what was really out there, and what might be 'scarce' in my area.

I purchased the "Harris & Co" Lincoln folders . . . . 1941-1974, and 1975-2013. I have been trying to do a strict "from circulation" set to see what I could find, and how much fun it would be to actually pull a coin from circulation that I 'needed'.

    As of now, just three Wheats . .a perfect BU 1954-S, a 1955, and a 1957-D in the first album, then missing 61, 61-D, 62, 64, 67, 68, 68-S, 69, 70, and 70-D. The second album is fun as well . . .just missing a lot of Phillies (I live in UT) . . . 75, 92, 93, 95, 98, 00, 02, 03, 05, 08. Not sure how close I want to play with those 1982s . . . I pull them all and dump them into a cup. I guess I could go get a scale . . . .

I have done an original set . . . 34-Present in BU, and 09-33 in XF-BU. S-VDB in 64RD, 22PL in 40, and 14-D in 45, but eventually sold. Have done several toned albums and a Library of Coins Toner . . .but sold also opportunistically.

Love the series. Managed to pull three Matte PR out of dealer stock over the years. Nothing big . . . just 63BR and RB in 1 1910 and 2 1912s . . . . . always fun.

Going to have fun pulling a few common Phillies from circ in the next year or so . . . . . . keeps my interested in my pocket change!

Have built two unc sets over the years. Sold the first 25 years ago, sold the second recently. Still have proofs 36-42, some unc rolls from the 30's and some type. Love Lincolns but likely will not build a third set. We shall see.

Yes- actively collecting a registry set plus and an almost complete raw set. But Lincolns are just one of many types of US coins I collect. There is a part of me that needed to complete the sets I started to collect as a kid in the 1960's. Back then i could only afford to collect what I found in my or my parents or my grandparents change. Of course there came a point where I could find none of the better dates and had lots of open slots in my folder. When I finally could afford to buy coins as as an adult this was the first set I worked on by buying coins at coin shops. I did the same with Washington Quarters for the same reason.

    Always trying to learn more

I have just started working on a Lincoln memorial album. Though I am unsure about my approach. Thinking about purchasing a nice, complete set of the clads and the proofs and then doing individual upgrades.

Not at the moment. Future pickup would be a 1955 DDO with a 5 or higher + nicely toned and no carbon spots is an ideal.

Sure. Toning can take on many different looks on copper coins. I am partial to the rainbow colors, particularly the greens. Here are two examples, a 49-S out of a double mint set with nice greens and reds, and since you mentioned memorials, a quite vibrant toned 70-D plucked out of a memorial board.

I have albums from 50+ years ago, some MS and some circulated. They are pretty much intact from that time in space. Now I collect Lincoln proof coins that are nicely toned:

I collect the cents when I get the chance. I have the Lincoln Cents book from 1909 to current. I started off collecting from coin roll hunting but have resorted to purchasing more and more of these. I'm currently upgrading the wheats as I come across them in the half off bin.

Lincoln’s were my primary collection and only date run I ever collected. I was able to assemble a date and mintmark set from 1909-1933 in average grade of MS 65 BN in both NGC and PCGS. It took several years to complete. Mostly from 2003-2014. I think the last two for me was the 1926 D and the 14 S for some reason. Was fun. I haven’t added to the set since then though, but I’m always looking for an upgrade to my 24 P. It’s tough to search for as it’s lost in the 24 Ds that seem to be the focus. Here is one of my favorites.

Absolutely love them. As wheat cents started my joy for the hobby! I collect a wide range now. Currently I am on a RPM mission. I keep toners, Mint errors ,Variety's. I do have a lot, I roll hunt often and cherry pick to the best of my ability. Hope to accomplish a set or type set of the sort soon. :) at least work my way there. -Working my way into IHC and Large cent varieties as well!
