Do you remember the first TPG slabbed coin you bought??

The first slabbed coin I bought was a Walker, a brilliant 1942-D/PCGS MS66 from a dealer in Florida. It was around 1999-2000 and I used a CC and paid the princely sum of $250, at the time it was the most I had ever paid for a coin. The funny part; when my statement came in the mail about three weeks later the seller had inadvertently charged me $2.50. He was frantic when I called him to straighten it out. I remember all the decision making on my part when I made the purchase because I was just getting back into the Hobby after a long, long hiatus. Things had changed so much I almost felt like I was learning a new language.
So what about it, do you remember the first slabbed coin you bought?? My Walker is long gone, do you still have yours?? Is there any story to go with it??
Thanks in advance for sharing.

a 1830 busty half au 50 ngc. i still got it some where.
It was an ICG MS Steel Cent. At the time I was mainly collecting circulated wheat cents to fill an album. This coin was in a junk bin and I thought it would be cool to have a slab for less than $10 (which was still more than the majority of my raw cents). I do still have that coin.
Getting harder to remember specifics, but I kept good records for tax purposes.
I bought a few MS65 silver Ikes off of Teletrade back in February 1989. All in PCGS rattlers. Those were the days where they sent you a catalog in the mail and you phoned in your bids. Remember the fake voice answering "Welcome to Teletrade"? Those were interesting auctions.
My records indicate that I paid from $56 to $62 each - worth much less today.
Somewhere along the line, I reholdered them (bad move with hindsight) into the 1st generation blue holders.
Still have them.

First ever slabbed coin was an 1884 O Morgan in PCGS 64.
First ever slabbed Walker was a 1916 D in NGC 62.

Hmmm. Interesting question. It seems like it was a 1934-S Peace dollar in MS63. Of course, it’s long gone and it was many 34-S coins ago.
Sure. It was an unattributed FS-101 1930 Buffalo nickel in a PCGS 65 holder more than 15 years ago. Former forum member Buffnut, who I'd met on Buffalo collectors board that no longer exists, alerted me to the fact that a major dealer had 3 of them, 2 65s and a 66, for sale at the same time. He bought the other two. Still have mine, still unattributed. Someday I'll send it in for attribution.
No pictures???
I am not sure if it was my first, but my 1917 Type I Standing Liberty Quarter (Old White ANACS MS63FH) was part of my crossover to PCGS (MS63FH) using my submission voucher with my first PCGS membership.
I only have two of those original eight in my collection to this day, the quarter above and 1807/6 Large Cent.

An 1876 Seated Dime in PCGS 66. I sold it when I liquidated everything in the late 2000's.
Great transactions with oih82w8, JasonGaming, Moose1913.
Mine was a two-sided toned 1878-CC Morgan in PCGS65.
Wish I still had it.
A Mercury dime in a PCGS holder. Probably around 1988-90? At the same show I bought a Boone commemorative. The label on the Boone said BLAST WHITE! Remember when that was all the craze? The obverse has since then toned russet gold/brown. Maybe I should take it back for a refund.
My first TPG slab was bought many years ago. It was in 1987 when I picked up a 1908 Saint Gaudens No Motto $20 gold in a PCGS MS63. It's long gone. I sold it about 25 years ago. Like most of my early pickups, I wish I still had it.

My FIRST experience with slabs was sending a coin in.
Came back 64.
Pissed me off so eventually I sold it.
It's now a 66

Back in the 1990's. 1938d Buffalo in a old PCGS slab.
100% Positive BST transactions
I honestly don't remember! It was probably only 7 years ago! I do remember the first slab I bought that was over $100. It was a 1917 type 1 SLQ xf45.
Yes.
1867 5C No Rays AU58.
Still have it.

Yes, I bought them in 1996 and I still have them today. The three were bought at the same time from a dealer in Fullerton Ca. 1 Peace and 2 Morgan Dollars.

Mine was a 1868-S VG10 $5 half-eagle. Bought it in the Heritage October 1991 Long Beach bullet sale, (remember those), via mail bid. My records say I paid $213.50. I hated to do it but it filled a hole in my set and the price seemed fair. About a year after that I lost interest in "collecting" except for an occasional minor purchase here or there until I jumped back in with both feet in 2011. The coin is still part of my liberty half-eagle set.
it's crackers to slip a rozzer the dropsy in snide
First slabbed coins I got were a 1921 Morgan dollar, PCGS MS-64 and an 1882-S Morgan Dollar, PCGS MS-63. Both were purchased on the same day. I still have both (the 1882-S is my avatar) although I cracked out the 1882-S for my Dansco album. The 1921 is still in the PCGS holder.
This is my first slabbed coin that I bought buying it off ebay back in 2000 and paying $375.00 for it. Still have it today in my collection after all these years.
Although unlikely I'd like to think this could have been my coin. It is the same slab type as the 1908 $20 No Motto that I bought back in 1987.
Thanks for sharing it.

Teletrade
1884O Morgan
NGC MS-62
Paid $26.16, with the juice
At the time, I was a "raw only!" collector, and had probably picked up a few Morgans that I THOUGHT were uncirculated. But I wanted a reference coin! Something to compare them to.
Now, $26 bucks isn't (and wasn't) a huge sum. But I remember fretting over it simply because at the time you couldn't SEE Teletrade coins, and the bidding was still done on the PHONE system. I was excited to win it, and proud that I moved into the "big time" collector world.
I was somewhat disappointed when I got it that it has an obvious scrape across the cheek. Looking at it now...."Well, yeah! It's an MS-62!" But it does have full luster, and has served as a benchmark for "uncirculated" for me for quite some time.
I still have it. I have much better Morgans, and I don't really NEED it for my collector goals...but I can't sell it if only for my own historical purposes. She's my baby!
I have no idea what it was... However, I know I still have it...
Cheers, RickO
Yes. It was a 1908 Indian Cent that was in a PCGS MS-64 R&B rattle holder. I bought it for the type and cracked it out partly because it did indeed rattle. I sold it raw for a profit when I became a dealer.
The second slabbed coin I purchased was an 1878, 7 over 8 tailfeather Morgan Dollar. It was in an NGC MS-63 holder. I cracked that out so that I could put it in a Capital Plastics holder that contained a set of the 1878 Morgan Dollar variety and mint mark set.
IN 1994, 2 Morgan Dollars in PCGS MS62. An 1881-S and 1883. Still have both of them.
The first was for my 40th birthday in 1995. It was a Morgan 1883-cc ms 65 pcgs. I sold it eventually for a bit of a profit.
1850-D $5 P45 CAC from @jdimmick on eBay. Stunning coin.
Latin American Collection
My first TPG coin was an ANACS graded Morgan 1888-0 MS62 Vam-9 that I got if I remember correctly, back in 1999 off of eBay. I will always remember how it was the first graded coin that I sniped off of eBay for the first time and how excited I was to have got it and got it for a pretty good price at that time. I still have the coin today.
No. But I often don't remember what I had for lunch yesterday.

Oh nothing much.
Only the finest known 1871 dollar.
I swore off slabs for YEARS.
Much to my detriment, but my POTENTIAL screwing was in the tens of thousands of dollars.
My first slab was a fatty NGC 1964 Roosevelt MS66 through Teletrade. I've still got it
Not 100% sure but probably a 1795 NGC $1 XF. Didn't know what to do after getting back into coins so started working with a local dealer on a type set.
My first was a PCGS MS63 1878-CC dollar. In 1995. It turned out to be the Lines in Wing VAM 11. I still have it
This is one of those details that is just so random that you may just remember it decades after it happened. For me, it was a 1926-D SLQ in a PCGS MS64 rattler holder. Of course, at the time rattlers were just PCGS holders, but it was my first PCGS certified coin.
In honor of the memory of Cpl. Michael E. Thompson
4 PCGS Rattler Common date Morgans different dates all in MS65 for $25 each.
1974-D(I think) Eisenhower $1 PCGS 65. Lightly toned purple. Actually...I think when I sold it, you may have been interested in it Keets!

If we were all the same, the world would be an incredibly boring place.

1909 D Barber Dime in PCGS XF45 for $100. I have since upgraded to PCGS graded 66+ Ex Simpson.
Don't remember exactly but my spreadsheets say a 1881o MS62 Morgan. Probably still in a slab box buried in one of the SDB somewhere.
The whole worlds off its rocker, buy Gold™.

Wooooha! Did someone just say it's officially "TACO™" Tuesday????
I have no idea what my first slab purchase was.
And unlike RickO, I can assure you that I DON'T still have it!
Sounds like a silly notion, but it was an early PCGS and I cracked it out because I thought the certification was protection for me to know what I was buying. I wasn’t thinking about selling later on, lol
In highschool around 1994, a PCGS OGH buffalo nickel, 1938 I think. It was the first time I had seen a slab and I was intrigued.

My first was an 1881-S MS64 Morgan Dollar in an older NGC holder. I bought it because it was a luster bomb.
I knew I had bought this, but could not find it for years.
Not too bad of an investment.
its a 0verton 117 as well.
