the survival rate on this date is pretty high, with over 1,000 graded higher, be nice to own some old gold though. 1,190 is in the ball park, but just a bit too high
The 1834 Plan 4 Classic Head $5 is the most common date and variety in the series. Given the recent auction results for NGC graded coin, I would say the price is on the high side.
Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?
The price is reasonable...but as others said it is a relatively common coin...and generally comes well struck...personally I would hold out for a 55 to 58 with a sticker...

Just no, plain NO. Yippee, it has another line on the numeral. Yippee yippee.
But if you want to complete a "Red Book" set of these coins, you need one.
So far as minior differences are concerned, if you are an Early American Copper die variety collector, minor differences can make all the difference. It's nature of variety collecting.

Yes - Nice NGC AU53 Coin - CPG $1620, relatively low pop coin tough find. Most likely at a show at only 1 in room. Wb great addition to my show inventory.
Prolly ask $1650 to start out (show) and would not take less than $1500 cash. Online price wb $1695 free ship.
Among the Classic Head gold coinage, you might call this a "widget," but compared to the really common date material from the late 1800s and early 1900s, it hard qualifies as that.

The coin in the OP has "been done" and really not very well IMHO.

No... That is a bit high for that coin. Cheers, RickO
No, well "processed," and I've learned the hard way....
It looks overgraded and processed. I would pass.

For a type enthusiast a fantastic needed piece.
Tell us how you really feel about the "crosslet 4".

No sticker!
I don't like the surfaces, but the coin for what it is, is cool.
