What was the coin that completed your set?

What was the coin that finally let you complete the set that you spent years working on, whether it be a condition rarity, a scarce variety, or something else entirely?
I'm afraid that I don't have a piece of my own that meets these criteria, but let's see the reward of the patient collectors on the Boards!

The 1796 No Stars Quarter Eagle was the last coin I needed to complete a U.S. type set from the half cent to the $20 gold piece. I have completed other lesser sets since then, but that was the big one.
3 Legger and 13 S type 2 - purchased days apart and arrived the same day.
1895-S Barber Half in VF35, perfectly toned. BIN off of Ebay that was priced fairly. An Ebay relic that no longer exists.
1916 Standing Liberty quarter.
Everything is all right!
Who is ever "complete?"

"A dog breaks your heart only one time and that is when they pass on". Unknown
That was also the last coin I needed to complete my "boyhood" collection to Lincoln Cents. It took a long time. I started during Christmas week 1959 and finished in the spring of 1982. Needless to say other coins had a higher priority.
For the Barber quarter set: naturally the '01 S.
Then again, still upgrading
For all others? Still upgrading

Christ on a cross it took me decades to find the right 1946-S Roosie in 66+. My set is nowhere near complete but it felt really good to finally find one.
I know there's thousands and blah blah but I have really high standards and am super picky on dimes for a variety of reasons. Biggest being how can a coin catch a 65 or better when IGWT is so flattened it's partly illegible? Smh.
It was a long time ago.... (have not done sets in many years) But I think it was my 1893CC....I think that was either 1999 or 2000.... Cheers, RickO
Delete stupid post. Ill conceived. Inappropriate. Unloved.
When I put together my VF set of Buffalos, the last coin I purchased was the 1928-D.
When I put together the same set in AU, the last coin was the 1925-D.

A choice AU small planchet Pine Tree Shilling that completed my Pine Tree denomination set - technically, I see it as a filler.

AU 1893-O half. Tough to find a coin with a decent strike
Still looking for it
Need a nice problem free 93s Morgan in 45 to 53 PCGS/CAC to replace my 20. Then I'll be done (or at least happy with the set)
I can't tell if you're joking or not. I'm sure many collectors consider their collection as a virtually unending quest, but plenty of people have completed previous attempts at whole sets to their own satisfaction, at least to the point where they consider selling and starting on something else. This thread is about those coins that they found most difficult to acquire, or that they were the most patient to obtain.
Well...this one completed my set in 58 after I finally got it upgraded from a 55

Then I upgraded it with this 58+

Thirty somin to go...Please let me know if any of you guys see or have any 58+ Barbers forsale!
Everything that catches my eye is in my "set."
And they all seem difficult to acquire.
Unless I relax my standards.
The blast white 1937 proof half dollar described in another thread completes my WLH proofs. Over nine years from acquiring the first one to the final acquisition of the 1937 last month.
1863 Indian cent.

It'll be a Seated Dollar w/ motto to finally finish my 7070.
My plan is to get the last needed coin at the first large show I've ever attended. ANA Philly.

My Washington Quarter Registry set...in progress
The last coin I needed to find to complete a set of Classic Head Quarter Eagles was the 1838-P. There are other coins in the set which have a far bigger reputation, but that one gave me more trouble than I ever thought it would. I searched for about a year.
One of the things that drove me a little crazy was the Heritage want list system. You can post your want list on their site, and they will notify you whenever a piece shows up in an auction or in their inventory. The trouble is the site recognizes the date but not the mint mark. I got many notices for the 1838-C, which is a famous key coin, but not for the 1838-P.
2018 ASE....until next years 2019 is released. lol

1800 H10 in Au-58 for my pre 1840 type set.
Only missing coins are two gold $2 1/2, 1796 and 1808 which I decided not to collect when I started the set.
I was more interested in collecting all four varieties of the 1796 and 1797 halves. Still have one more to get.
This...took a long time and a lot of eating peanut butter sandwiches for lunch

The only set I've ever completed is the state quarters. I count the territories as part of the series, and I didn't get the last one I needed... Puerto Rico D...until 2014.
This one completed my IHC's PCGS set.
Lance.
Each time I "complete" a set I later expand the set definition or begin upgrading. It's a sickness.
LOL! My Barber half's started with me finishing a PCGS F12 set! You see what it did to me!
