What does the number of stars after your username signify?

WingedLiberty1957WingedLiberty1957 Posts: 3,010 ✭✭✭✭✭

Some people have 3, some have 4, some have 5. It doesn't seem to be purely based on number of posts.
I dont recall ever seeing any 1 or 2 star insignias, nor do I recall ever seeing 6 stars.
So it must be a 3 tiered system: 3 or 4 or 5 stars only .
So meaning? Just curious.

A long numismatic life coupled with collecting joy and happiness. As in most things, the more, the merrier.

Maybe 4 stars are like the Jan Brady's of the board -- the forgotten middle child.

Are they based on points acquired? Or Likes and Agrees you have?
Not sure myself, but post count and time as a member don't seem to be a factor.

There are 1 and 2 stars but you progress past those pretty quickly.

Far as I can tell it is based points which I'm pretty sure are based on likes, agrees and badges. I do not think LOLs contribute, disagrees may actually decrease point count. As stated above, no relation to numismatic knowledge. It is based on your activity on the board.

Hey, Backroadjunkie, the first time I heard that joke I was about seven years old. I told it to my mom. Can't remember if she laughed or not. Ever hear the one about "rubber balls and liquor?" It's almost as funny as yours. Not quite, But almost.

I'm happy to get 3 stars. That in total, is more stars than I ever got from any teachers from kindergarten to graduating college. Actually if I'm remembering right, 1 star would have been more.

As you advance through this board you get points for things you do, including posts, agrees, likes, etc.

Click on your Avatar and you can see your "badges" earned. The more badges, post, comments, etc. you make, the more points you get. The stars are given out after reaching certain levels.

The longer your here, the more you comment, agree or like (and the more people that click on You that like a comment you made, ) the faster you move up and earn stars and points.

Hope this helps.

It's based on the number of points you have.
1000+ = 5 stars
500+ = 4 stars
100+ = 3 stars
50+ = 2 stars (that's a guess, not sure where the actual cutoff is)
Below 50 = 1 star

The title is assigned when you set the board up. Right now, you have:
3 stars: Collector
4 stars: Expert Collector
5 stars: Master Collector.

So if this was a fishing board, for instance,

3 stars: Baiter
4 stars: Expert Baiter
5 stars: Master... well, you know.

(See, this post proves the number of stars you have has nothing to do with numismatics. And yes, it's a slow day here. Just got finished shoveling the $@%&$ snow...)

While you guys have posted "basic" well-known information (see similar discussions); perhaps that is the way it should be BUT THAT IS NOT THE ENTIRE WAY IT DOES WORK.

Trust me, I'm the curious type and as soon as I joined I tried to solve all the ways this forum works. What I posted above are observable FACTS. Anyone who is curious and takes the time to compare the profiles of members can verify what I posted above. :)

EDIT: Besides the computer program, the folks who monitor this forum have the ability to hand stars out at their discretion - as it should be. It is their forum.

I wondered how this worked. I do a lot of reading on here and don't post a whole lot. I do hand out "likes" and "agrees". I've only started a few threads and I have posted just over 1200 times, yet somehow I have 4 stars. It makes very little sense when there are others in here who seem to contribute more than I do yet have fewer stars. It's a mystery...

1 star means that you're a member.
2 stars is a veteran.
3 stars make you a collector
4 stars you're an expert collector
5 stars gets you to master collector status.
