Good for you! Managed to get 4 flags so far...try for more. The poor sore losers or pc crowd got sad. Too bad more snowflakes don't melt with the warmer weather today. Been checking in thru the day so far to all the news channels on Sirius XM radio...it's quite funny to hear the blame game and crybabies. Enjoy!

I can think of two agencies (Energy and Education) that ought to be shut down permanently.

I wonder if the White House gym is shut down? Those poor poor bureaucrats will have to get their own towels, rather than having them handed to them.

    Or do they?

With the silver eagles and when demand is high they have three 8 hour shifts for 5 days. Presumably other production is similar.

Interesting but is the demand there?

So does the shut down have any affect on the mint at all?

Not sure, but if the mint is self-supporting there is no reason to shutdown IMO.

back during sequester, they had to make cuts, also.

Yes. I was told by their QC director that they had to put a purchase on hold due to sequester.

The mint and the BEP stay open for work - they are self-funded. However tours will stop as the security people are Treasury.

I don't know whether the administration was ever seriously considering it, but economists did float the idea.

The Government Shutdown has no impact on the mint or the mail....both are government agencies that are self supporting businesses.

I think if the Government is officially shut down, taxes should be shut down also. Tax free until they get their act together.

That is excellent news cause the Mint got alot of work to do! Make my coins and I want perfect one's! o:)

They must consider themselves an "essential service". I hope they don't get paid up front, they should be paid when all the other workers get paid.

furloughed federal employees continue to accrue pay and benefits. In the rare event there is no money to pay (has never happened in previous shutdowns), back pay will be provided when normality returns. There is no real shutdown of government expenses, only the services provided to the taxpayers by its affected agencies. Affected services are carefully chosen to maximize a public outcry to the legislators to git 'r done.

The solution is to require spending bills to stand alone with no pet projects or political differences attached. This is what is exactly causing the current "shutdown."

Furloughed federal employees who are deemed essential and must continue to work will continue to accrue benefits and will be paid retroactively. Those who are not considered essential (do not work in public safety) do not receive those benefits or pay.

Next time, let's hope we all vote for people who resolve to use governance to responsibly get things done.
