CommemKingCommemKing Posts: 2,202 ✭✭✭✭✭

Sorry bad sellers pic. Looks like it will be nice when I get it in hand. I love the fact I'm not bound by my entire 50 piece set anymore. Now I can buy a select few I love. Thoughts?

Normally, I prefer the Iowa bright white because they don't usually tone nicely. But, I like the toning on that one.

    Wow nice coin it’s super.

Yes I feel same way about Classic Commems. I bought a PCGS OGH MS63 nicely toned 1893 Columbian from a bin eBay for $70 but with $26 off in eBay bucs it was $44. Super deal!

This MS67+ is a pop 63 with 87 higher at PCGS. I wouldn't exactly call that gobs.

Its certainly a widget, but I'm ok with that. My collection is about all widgets as I don't really collect the keys.

Nice that you're able to collect the series that like so much in a way that's enjoyable.

I find the Iowa obverse to be a little industrial looking but really like the reverse with the subtle clouds in the background.
    Congrats on your newp.

Here is my piece, which in an MS-64 holder.

I would not pay a fortune for an Iowa, but when I looked at the "Coin Facts" page I noted that the MS-67 price is $225 which is $95 higher than the MS-66 price. That's not a fortune for most collectors so I suppose it's okay.

I can remember the days when collectors were paying $4,000 or more for a Monroe commemorative half dollar in MS-65. Now it's down to $750 on "Coin Facts." Times have changed!

I suppose I meant that in general around all of the 65 and up Iowa's being posted.

Bill, that does not look like an average 64. I don't see a mark on it.
    How's the luster?

I know high grade Iowas aren't rare, but has anyone seen one with a full strike on the eagle's head? That may be the way the sculpture was done, but the head always looks mushy to be. That Hall flip one looks good, but may just be the angle.

I like all of the Iowas posted here, but the OP's one the best.

The coin has satin luster, which is fine by me. I bought and sold a number of them when I was dealer, and I kept that one because I liked it better than the MS-65 pieces I handled. A decade ago the MS-66 and higher pieces were more expensive than they are today, and I didn't think that they were worth the money. The Iowa is common in high grade.

    Is that flip archival?

The old David Hall flips feel like PVC to me but I have never tested them. The coin itself is encased in a Kointain which is tough to see. Of all the old Hall flips I have, none exhibit any deterioration of the coin inside.

Some very nice Iowa's here.... I like them clean and bright like that.... If the star is for eye appeal, that could mean bright and well struck just as much as colorful tarnish.... Cheers, RickO
